My husband's 50th birthday is this month, and we're thinking about going to New Orleans. I've been twice, and I was wondering if all the street performers will be at Jackson Square in July since it's so hot. I don't want to go if the city is dead from the heat!

Yup, people will be out trying to make money no matter what the temperature, especially in this economy.

But, there's a lot going on in the French Quarter aside from the street performers i.e. sidewalk artists, carriages/buggies, etc. Plus, lots of restaurants are offering great deals during the summer months, so the city definitely is not dead from the heat!

I live in the New Orleans area, and agree it is hot in the summer...but not nearly as hot as Dallas/Ft. Worth, where I've lived before.

Everything there was to do before the Hurricane is still available--heck, the tourist areas were not even affected by the storm, except for looting for a month afterward.

In fact, according to Tom Fitzmorris (who hosts a daily radio talk show about food and restaurants), there are more restaurants now than before the storm!

I have a friend who drives a buggy in the French Quarter (he flew F-14s during a 30 year Navy career, so quite a change!) and works at the New Orleans School of Cooking who says his business is back to about 75% of pre-storm level. So you can expect slightly smaller crowds.

HI

Im Ms Pearl. The dsbject if a film Kamp Katrina showing now on PBS.

IM also a mime .There are plenty of street noperformers here in July, Most are good.

Jackson square is a great place to find then as well as Royal St and Decatur and the river walk.

Heres how to tell the diffrence between a real performer and a con artist.

A good rule to follow is don't stop for performers whp call out to you. Tipping is optional no good performer will make the initial contact or ask for money. Move on if one starts a conversation.
