I know that the south of the island has suffered from petty thefts and burglaries over the years, can somebody tell me if the Altamadores resort has room safes? or has there been any instances of theft of valuables from premises recentl?

not sure, but i was in the navada apartments a few years ago hired out the safety deposit box returned back after a nite out and found the safe opened like a tin of beans everything was gone, passports money,we didnt know our rights at the time had insurance and all that but ended up getting nothing back, just be careful
I would expect the apartments to have a safe.
I would always recommend that you use a safe. Carloweve had a bad experience even with one but its a deterrent.
The cost of a safe is far less than the cost involved in dealing with a theft. You need a translator, you have to go up the island to file your police reports, it spoils your holiday etc etc.
Thanks for your replies, I wasn't being rude by not thanking earlier, its just that I left the laptop at home just to be safe. Altamadores did have safes (10 euros for 7 days with a 10 euro deposit). Weather was excellent and had a great time (with no thefts whatsoever!)
Was surprised at how quiet Puerto Rico and Amadores was though - the places seemed empty and half of the Europa Centre didn't even bother to open!
That is a cheap price for a safe. Marina Suites were charging €35 a week at one point for theirs!
