We are thinking of staying in Kamari in September, but notice that the airport is very close to the town. Has anyone found this a problem in terms of noise, etc? Are there any hotels at the other end of town which are quieter that you could recommend?

No its not a problem at all.

In fact, they are quite interesting to watch !

They fly over the beach at the very (very) far end of town, not over any hotels AFAIK or if it is, just the last one or two. Because they are coming in at right angles to the beach, they are only over it for a few seconds, so there is also very little noise even though they are very low down.

When they take off (thats the noisy bit), its in a completely different direction, away from the town and not over the beach at all so you aren't even aware of them taking off, though if you are up in Imerovigli you can get some good views of that (but you cant hear them, too far away, noise in different direction)

Also, there aren't that many flights, and I'm pretty sure, no night flights at all, so no noise to wake you up at night.

Last year we were in a hotel in the centre of town , 100yds from the sea front, and never heard *any* aircraft noise ever over 10 days.

On the beach, the noise lasts for 10 seconds, and you might get what seems no more than 1 flight an hour, though its probably more frequent than that. So I would book whatever hotel you fancy, also if you read the reviews in here, if there is any noise, I'm sure the reviews will mention it.

I agree with Joe, we were at the north end of Kamari beach towards the airport & its no problem at all.

Unlike the other posters here, I've found the noise quite annoying at the end of Kamari close to the airport. I guess it's a question of what you're used to - British visitors in my home always remark on how quiet it is here and Laplanders grumble about the noise from a distant motorway.

If you're a sensitive type, book a place closer to the mountain.

Definitely not a problem - not many flights anyway, and none at night. We thought it was an asset as they look good coming around the mountain. You'll have a brilliant time - enjoy it.

I stay at the north, near the flight path, and I enjoy watching the planes come by. It doesn't seem to be too many and at night it's quite as opposed to some hotels where you tend to have larger and louder bars.
