What is the best attire for Kabul.
Iam going there as a tourist in May 2011
In kabul, most of the young girls wear jeans while covering their head and chest with scarf and a shawl
I'm in my late twenties and just visited Kabul in mid-March for work purposes.
It's important that you wear long sleeves that cover your arms and some kind of long dress/tunic to cover your behind. Wildsnake has neglected to mention that there should be something covering the shape of your hips/behind in addition to the jeans and shawl.
For me, a typical outfit was a pair of pants, a long-sleeve shirt and then a jumper/dress to go over it all. Of course, I then wrapped the headscarf around. My female work colleague felt comfortable wearing the scarf only loosely - personally, I felt better wrapping it a bit tightly.
Please note that I only visited Kabul - I would dress even more conservatively if you are traveling in rural areas.
Best of luck in your travels - I'm fascinated by Afghanistan and wish that I could have traveled more freely around Kabul.
Bonjour from Peshawar,
Dress properly, long shirt with pair of jeans and a black abayya'd be fine.
A lot of expats stress over dressing for their first stint in Kabul. Well, fear no more, first-timers. Afghans, even poor Afghans, care about fashion as much as people of any other nationality. And Kabul, being the capital, is actually pretty fashion-conscious and can be high school hallway level judgmental at times.
for sure long sleeves, jeans and better if u cover uor head
the less they notice you the better is for you
