Dress code for Christmas day and Sampo icebreaker tour Xmas
Save

Hi - I am going as a single mum to Lapland on 23rd December with my daughter, for 5 days (with Cosmos) staying at Levituntari and I am very aware lots of layers are required for the day excursions, I was wondering if people wear 'smartish' clothes for the Christmas Day meal and disco? Don't want to look out of place either dressed up or dressed down......

Any advice welcome, also any advice on day trips - my daughter is 10 and we are keen to get as much out of the trip as possible. Is the Sampo icebreaker feasible (I see it is quite a distance away - do they arrange tour buses that collect you from hotel?)

Many thanks

i looked into the sampo icebreaker and the distance and cost was too much from yllas (same sort of distance from levi)

we were looking at doing it for new years eve and from what I recall the taxi was going to be about €300 so we didnt bother

as for what to wear for christmas day - we basically just peeled off our snow gear and sat about in leggins etc, its all very relaxed and just add a bit of tinsel to party yourself up mind you, if you are staying in the hotel where the meal is then glam yourself up and take a couple of crackers in your hold luggage, also take some cheap fairy lights and a travel plug to christmas up your room

Sampo ice breaker will be quite a cost even without the transit costs. The 4-hour cruise (incl. guided tour on board the ship
- lunch: a bowl of soup, bread with butter, coffee/tea, swimming/floating in the sea in appropriate survival suits) costs 260€/person. Transfers from Kemi to the Ajos harbour and back +30€, three course meal +20€. There is a day trip arranged from Rovaniemi (365€/person), so if you can get yourself from Levi to centre of Rovaniemi for 9:45 am, and back to Levi after 6 pm., the trip may be feasible: http://www.sampotours.com/english/cruise-info/day-excursion-from-rovaniemi-to-the-sampo-icebreaker-and-to-the-snowcastle . You will be in Levi also on normal working days (e.g. 27 Dec), so on that day you might make it, as there is a bus from Levi to Rovaniemi at 07:10 arriving in Rovaniemi bus station at 09:40. The tour bus to Sampo will leave at 09:45 from Aallonkatu, so you should make some arrangements with the organisers to pick you up from the bus station or wait for you a while as you won't make it in 5 minutes to the departure place (ca 500 m from the bus station). However, on that day there is no connection from Rovaniemi to Levi late enough. There would be a bus at 18:15 on 28 Dec...

Most will wear what I'd call smart casual. For Xmas maybe some theme cardigans etc.

Black tie and white tie are totally over the top, women seldom have proper high heels and glam dresses.

Hi we are going to be in Levi for Christmas though not in same accommodation, I'm going to wear New Look sparkly tunic top or Topshop t-shirt dress and leggings for Christmas Day that can be covered with practical layers for outdoors.

At the Levitunturi last week there were plenty of ladies dressed up for the meals with Santa.

We had to laugh when they were trying to walk from their rooms across the car park in 6 inch heels and thermal suits only to reveal full evening gowns underneath.
