Thinking of staying here for a short break in the near future but of course as we've left it late to book we are unable to get the preferred log cabin and have been offered a room in the Fell House but can only find one review which specifically mentions them although no photos. Has anyone stayed there who could advise/compare the two....

many thanks!

My advise go anywhere but. We came back from a 4 day trip between xmas and new year. I sent a two page letter of complaint on the 3rd Jan via email and letter, and have finally got an email today to say they are looking into.

Awful place that took a lot of money from us, for a second rate holiday, including telling us the flight had moved earlier just so they could get the rooms cleaned for the next guests.

I stayed in the Davvi Arctic Lodge with my family recently. The rooms are very old and tired. Very compact, especially the bathrooms and not much care taken on cleanliness.

Food was a buffet style but with no choice, poor quantity and disgusting quality. If you need a snack you need to walk to the nearest garage, nothing else is served!

The excursions that were organised with Transun, were late, unorganised and didn’t have any other refreshments than a hot fruit juice, no tea or coffee, or even WATER! On one excursion we were left standing on a frozen lake for over 30 minutes in -35 with young children!

Could go on forever, have written a four page complaint, Enjoy!

I would never venture back!

It's the worse hotel ever and the food is uneatable. poor quality fish finger and chips for kids everyday. no other choices. the breakfast is disgusting. and your lunch is a leftover from your pevious dinner. If you want to have an enjoyable holiday. book somewhere else.

Gosh, I'm so sorry that you all had such a bad experience and hope that you do receive some positive feedback from them as these holidays don't come cheap do they......'fraid it's too late for us now as we jumped the gun and went ahead and booked late yesterday as places were limited for the week we wanted so we'll have to grin and bear it and hope that they will have sorted themselves out by then (will go forewarned with plenty of snacks/ travel kettle etc).

Many thanks for taking the time to reply & best wishes for your next holidays.

I returned home from Davvi on Tuesday this week and can honestly say, I had the most fantastic holiday.

I can't comment on the Fell House or the hotel rooms as we were in a cabin. We didn't really spend much time in the accomodation anyway as we were out enjoying the beautiful surroundings (surely thats the real reason you're going to Finland)...?

However everything else, i can make a comment....

I LOVED it at Davvi - we had a brilliant time! The staff were wonderful, the excursions were well run, the food is basic (however what can you expect 300km into the arctic) but its hot and filling and just what you need before/after a day in in the elements!

I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time!

Hi Shell1x

Glad that you had a lovely time as seems to be the case for the majority of people since the Xmas season 2009,

Yes, it is the lure of being in a place where you might experience the Northern Lights which was the main factor of choosing this short (but expensive) break and we'll be celebrating our Anniversary whilst we are there hence the enquiry regarding preference of cabins....somehow the thought of a log cabin seemed more romantic!.... "Basic food" is fine - we've travelled to many places over the years: if the foods hot and edible we'll eat it as we're not (totally!) into designer meals...will still bring the old travel kettle for an early morning cuppa though!

Have now just got to wait......and shop....

Hmm. Shell1x has posted practically an identical message in this thread: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g858369-i14187-k4157222-Transun_Davvi_Arctic_Lodge-Karesuvanto_Lapland.html

Irrespective of the nature of comments, I would say that the holiday is also a lot about what you make of it. One's own attitude plays a big part in the experience. Don't get me wrong, this is not meant to neglect anyone's bad experiences - Transun should naturally live up to their promises (in tourism people buy immaterial products/dreams based on the descriptions the tour operators give - and naturally they should be realistic).

But as stated in the other thread, the location of the hotel above the Arctic Circle is not an adequate reason for bad quality food. There are excellent top restaurants in Lapland, too! Fresh produce can be (and is) transported there daily.

Yes, I did post an almost identical thread on a forum...coz I copied and pasted it from my review of Davvi as I saw people were asking for opinions, and as I had just returned from Davvi, I figured my opinion was fairly valid.

"is there much nearby?"

Well, let's put it this way, as much as you can expect from villages of that size. Karesuvanto in Finland has ~150 inhabitants and Karesuando in Sweden twice as many. In Sweden there is some activity, I guess also a public pool. In Finland there's a gas station/souvenier shop.
