I've stayed here twice- the first time was last November, and although I was only there for a flying visit- got there, went straight out, came back late, got up early and left- I was nevertheless impressed with the value for money, friendly staff and free 'n' easy parking.
Returning to Manchester for an overnight stay with my husband, I chose here because we were driving in. Although this isn't a criticism of the hotel, it's not that easy to find- considering it's on the site of the Lancashire County Cricket Club, you'd expect more signposting, but this time at least we had a better idea as to where we were going.
Booked on Expedia and got an "executive" room for £64, inclusive of breakfast. The only real difference between that and a standard room- but it IS a difference worth paying a bit extra for (and a lot on match days if you like your cricket)- is the exec rooms have a balcony overlooking the ground, complete with high stools (beware if you're inebriated!) for your extra viewing pleasure. Even though there were no matches on and the pitch was a bit waterlogged, it was still a sight worth seeing.
The room was slightly cold, but perhaps made up for that by its "cosy" size. Although there was a sofa bed there wouldn't have been space to swing a cat in there had we availed ourselves of it. And although the main bed was comfy, it was only 6' long in all, so if you are anything above petite you will either have to scrunch up or bring bedsocks.
But that aside, our stay was great. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the buffet breakfast was absolutely fine. The hotel doesn't do other meals, however leaflets at reception make it very easy for you to arrange a nighttime takeaway and the staff will let you know when it arrives. Planet Spice rocks!
Would certainly stay here again and would recommend to everyone but the tall.
