“Should be called amazing!!”

The Plaine

27 Apr 2008

We have just spent the most amazing weekend at the Plaine!!
Please be aware you will not want to leave!
Stephanie and Giles ae fantastic hosts and made us fell very welcome in their lovely home.
It was my boyfriends birthday so I took him away, stephanie and giles made him a little toast cake at breakfast and sang happy birthday! The little things make all the difference.
Ate in the George just over the road so not far to go after a few wines- for food I reccomend this restaurant.
I can not express how good The Plaine is- Thank you both for having us- and we will be back!!

“Highly recommended B&B, full of character”

The Plaine

18 Apr 2008

My daughter and I spent 3 nights at The Plaine, Norton St Philip, Bath and it is easily the best B&B I have ever stayed in. The owners Stephanie and Giles couldn't have been more welcoming; the en-suite room with its 4-poster bed and en-suite bathroom was beautifully decorated and comfortable, and there was a huge choice for breakfast which was freshly cooked and is served in a beamed dining room with a huge fireplace.
Both The Plaine and Norton St Phillip are very old and full of character and the house has been tastefully modernised. It sits on the village crossroads and is opposite an olde worlde pub "The George" which is very friendly and serves wonderful food at very reasonable prices.
The location is ideal for touring - we drove in to Bath for a shopping trip and had no problem following Stephanie's directions and parking at the bottom of the town. We also visited Stonehenge; Longleat; Cheddar Gorge and the Mulberry Factory Shop in Shepton Mallet - all within easy travelling distance, as was Bristol airport. Steph is an excellent host and happy to share her local knowledge to help you make the best of your stay. I would happily recommend this B&B to anyone.
Our thanks to your both and we do hope to visit you again in the future!!

Absolutely fantastic place: comfortable, clean, cosy - Stephanie and Giles offer a warm and friendly welcome and make the Plaine a top place to not only go but also to revisit. My partner and I really enjoyed our stay. We explored Bath and took a trip to nearby Wells, a picturesque village - none other than the model village featured in Hot Fuzz. Bath is a truly beautiful city and after wandering through its streets returning to Norton St Philip and the Plaine was the perfect end to the day. The George Inn just opposite the Plaine is a fantastic, oldie-worldie pub serving great food in warm and friendly surroundings. Breakfast was great, relaxed and enjoyable. The holiday was only 2 nights and three days but I feel completely refreshed as though I had been away a lot longer. I cannot wait for my next visit.

“A Hit! A Palpable Hit!”

The Plaine

3 Apr 2008

My husband and I stayed with Stephanie and Giles for two nights recently on a short trip to Bath. Loved the village, the George Pub and The Plaine--it was like taking a trip back in time to visit Shakespeare! The Plaine is very old and charming, and Stephanie and Giles have updated it nicely, making it very comfortable and attractive without spoiling the character. The decor is simple and classic, not fussy or overdone. The beds are indeed very comfortable, the bathrooms clean and modern, and breakfast is served in a charming big dining room with a huge hearth. The hosts could not have been nicer or more helpful, offering us good advice as well as interesting stories about the inn's past. After a day of hustle-bustle in Bath, we were happy to return to the quiet little village away from the tourists. We look forward to another visit, soon I hope.

“Plaine Jane?..... Not this hotel!!”

The Plaine

31 Mar 2008

I wanted to whisk my over-worked loved one to somewhere "in the countryside" but with a town of character and interest nearby. So I went online and discovered Bath and it's surrounding villages.
I decided on The Plaine, in Norton St Phillip just outside Bath. We had a lovely drive down through beautiful English countryside.
On arrival we were greeted by Stephanie who showed us to our room and even carried by exceptionally heavy bag! Brave lady!
Our room was a very pretty lemon colour with a four poster bed but not in the least bit twee. We had a relaxing first evening and ate in The George, literally across the road. The venison melted in the mouth and Loved One's chicken was delicious.
After a glorious night's sleep in the comfiest bed on the Planet, Stephanie cooked us a delicious breakfast using local products.
I was a bit concerned that we were slightly TOO far out of Bath, but didn't need to be as there is a bus stop right outside The Plaine that takes you to the town centre, with beautiful scenery on the way. I'd recommend the bus as parking in a strange place can be quite daunting.
After a whole day of shopping we went to a local pub for dinner in the evening. Our last full day was warm and sunny and both Stephanie and Giles gave us a lot of ideas for places to visit. So we went to them all!
We came home totally relaxed and with bag fulls of shopping. I'd recommend anyone to stay at The Plaine, it's almost like going to stay with family. I wish Stephanie and Giles many happy years in their wonderful hotel.
