“Not so Presidential”

Presidente Hotel

30 Sep 2007

Just returned from a week's holiday at the Presidente. We travelled as a family of 3 (with a child 19 months). Here are a few of my honest opinions on the hotel and location of Portinatx:

Hotel Food
Breakfast was typical of a 3* hotel english fry-up with cereal and toast etc but the food was usually hot and not a problem. Evening meal again was OK but nothing really special, I was expecting a few more fresh fish dishes being in the med and a decent paella but to no avail. The kids meal bar was typically chips, and some deep fried chicken or fish fingers so we didn't really use it

Hotel Reception
On the whole quite helpful but it seemed as if we were charged for everything they could stiff us for: fridge, safe, etc. On the last day they were a bit unhelpful with providing a room to change - 30 mins only for a family of 3 or pay another day to keep your room!

Hotel Room
Small and dated but clean and not really a problem (after we paid additional money to be moved to a sea view). If you do go try calling the hotel in advance and aim for rooms 320 - 328 (even numbers only), they have the better views

Hotel Entertainment
Very good, the guys here work extremly well and if you have a family with 2 young kids then the kidszone was second to none can highly recommend! Probably one of the best orgnaised entertainment I have seen (maybe this is why Thomson rate it as a 4T when the hotel is only 3*!)

Location
If you have small children with a pram or if you have a member of your party in a wheelchair; be aware that you have about a 500yrd hill from the hotel to the beach; its not extremly steep but steep enough you will be needing to catch your breath at the top (or maybe that's because I'm unfit!). If you have an adult in a wheelchair or you an elderly person then it maybe worth trying another hotel a bit more on the flat. On the plus side the beach is really nice and we loved the sea as it was child friendly. Nothing much going on at night if you want bars and discos stay in the south, entertainment in the resort is limited to a few bars

Thats about it, would I go again? Maybe if it was a last minute (cheap) deal but I would not plan to book next year, and certainly not at the prices Thomson are charging if you pay the brochure price - I think it is a bit of a rip off as there are better hotels in the balearics for the money.

The hotel staff did mention that the hotel was due for renovation over the winter period though?!?!

“Good value for what we paid”

Presidente Hotel

29 Sep 2007

A friend and I stayed at the Presidente for 10 days, mid September and did have a good time. We felt it was good value but did have a few concerns.

As the previous reviewer posted, we were upset that the waiters took their own tips from our change at the evening entertainment, well one did twice. The solution was to walk to the bar. I don't mind giving a tip for good service but 1.70 Euros per two drinks seemed a bit steep.

Our room, 172, was in a very good position at the end of a corridor with a view to the hippy market site and side views of the sea and the mountains. The early morning cockerell crows from the wasteland next door was charming but I wish it had waited until sunrise.

Now for the room itself. Very limited storage space, so we didn't really unpack, and no place to store two suitcases, which resulted in much tripping over them when getting up for the loo in the dark whilst not turning the lights on so as not to disturb the other.. There were three beds in our room, one disguised as a sofa, which made space very limited. I drew the curtains back with my bottom while attempting to get into bed. NO TAP in the bath! I like a bath and it had to be filled via the shower head which meant the water was not hot by the time the bathwater was a couple of inches high. I'm as green as they come but I would have liked a decent soak.

Now for the good bits: The entertainment team were wonderful. Why did they move Tweety out??? The food was good but a real lack of choice of cooked vegetables. Emilio was a gem. The extras, like a flower for the ladies, a drink before dinner were much appreciated. I could find no fault with the breakfasts.

Cardiac Hill: Don't run at it. Saunter up it. Took me 7 days out of my 10 to realise this.

Things to do in Portinatx: Not much if you don't want a tan. Do not miss Duncan McCann, Drag Queen at Vincents Bar on Fridays. The drinks are very reasonable there too. For tobacco don't go to Boozy Buys but the one opposite on the square.

To summise, kudos for most things. Take the third bed out of a two person booking room and replace with a second bedside cabinet. More choice of cooked veg at dinner and stop taking tips that aren't deserved. BUT...all in all good value.

Stayed for 2 weeks mid sept.(Frankly this was one week to long for us as we are not sunbathers.) Portinatx is a pretty resort with 3 beaches. The third beach is slightly further away .It feels less commercialised (and less Brits). Empty sunbeds dominate all the best positions on the other main beaches (12 euros for 2 beds & one parasol). Portinatx is very small. There are lovely walks nearby but no chance with a pushchair. We felt hemmed in. As for the hotel, we felt we had good value. The food was excellent. All the staff were very friendly and the reps were hard working and professional. The professional evening entertainment 5 nights a week was very good and varied. The 'fill in' rep nights were awful. As for the drinks, beer & wine were comparitively priced to other hotels. However we did object to paying 2.60 euro for a fruit shoot and bought ours from the supermarket. Ice creams were expensive to. The waiters in the evening take their own tip from your change which I thought was off. However on the plus side the hotel does offer little things which make the difference, eg washing maching & dryer on every floor to use, air machine to blow up lilo's. free tapas, sherry, kids cocktails on occasional evenings. The hotel is dated, and I was disappointed with the size of the bedrooms. The tv channels are great if you like CNN and eurosport! Children are well catered for here with a soft play area, playground and of course the clubs. The music is loud but stops at a reasonable 11.30. The back of the hotel is quieter, only pay extra for a sea view if you don't mind noise in the evening. My 2 year old had a 'mystery' rash and throat/ear infection whilst there. Many people told me their child had the same? As for a previous writer I to would have felt agrieved if I had paid £2k for this holiday but as I paid half that I was very pleased.

My husband and I have just returned from a 10night stay at this hotel, we travelled with my brother, his wife and my 3yr old niece, we had booked this holiday tailored around my niece as we usually tend to stay in 4*+ hotels which are suited more to adults, however I have to say we were pleasantly surprised!

We hired a car from the airport, we booked online via Hertz, however had terrible problems as the car we had booked online was not the same size as the car we were given! As a result we wasted over an hour in the carpark at the airport! I would recommend that you a hire a car if you want to get around as the hotel is out on a limb and the last bus back from Ibiza town is 7.30pm.
There are some great beaches around the hotel, however the hotel is situated on a relatively steep hill.
The rooms are a little basic and dated, however the beds were comfortable. The rooms were cleaned and towels changed daily. My brothers room had 3 beds in, which did make it a little tight.
In the room was a fridge and safe both of which could be hired via the Reception for approx 4 euros a day. There was also a kettle in the room and 2 mugs, although they were plastic.
Our room was over the front of the hotel and we did not have any issues with noise, however some of the guests we spoke to had rooms which overlooked the pool and were very noisy!
The food was very english and quite repetitive, however the quality was ok with the exception of the meat which was poor, it was always hot though, we have been to many hotels where the food is lukewarm!
The choice of childrens meals was poor. Alot of batter and grease!! My niece did struggle with her evening meals and the lack of variety although she made up for it with her 2 tubs of ice cream a night!! The dinner hall was very clean, tidy and well managed, however the closing time for dinner at 8.30pm we felt was too early!
The pool facilities were good, although we did not think the area around the pool was very clean, the sunbeds needed replacing as alot of them were uncomfortable and broken.
My niece went to the kids club every day from 10am till midday, we could not fault this facility it was excellent and gave us all a well earned rest for a couple of hours!
The evening entertainment for kids was great with a mini disco every evening from 8.30pm, adult entertainment starting around 9.30pm. The entertainment reps were the hi-light of the holiday, they were fantastic, Adam (Aka Monkey Boy) and Ed (aka Ducky).
We have been to alot of places and stayed in many resorts and hotels and these two guys were outstanding, my niece fell in love with Ducky and didnt want to come home!!
The adult entertainment was ok and better than some 4* hotels we have been to. There were a couple of good comedians and a fantastic parrot show for the kids, the rep show wasnt all that great though!
One thing that was quite pricey though was the price of drinks in the hotel in general. This is a 3* hotel charging a 5* price in our opinion. Ice creams were also pricey at 3 euros for a magnum!

Overall we had a great holiday at this hotel, granted it is in need of some modernisation and some money spending on updating rooms etc however it is clean, the staff are very helpful and the entertainment reps are great, I would definately recommend to those families with kids over the age of 2!

“Great holiday for the family”

Presidente Hotel

We have just returned from the Hotel Presidente where we had the most
magical time ever. The kids loved it we loved it. The food was always
very good with something for everyone. The reps and hotel staff were the best I have ever had. The rooms are just write with averything you need. Portinax is one of the best beaches I have ever seen for kids. The shallow water and great sand make it fantastic. If anyone with kids said they did not love this place then they are mad, we had
a great time. We will go again next year. One final thing go down the
road from the hotel to the Bar Pinos Playa they do the best bagguettes in town (and take away for the beach) for lunch or drinks.
