We booked Borgo di Ribuio as we thought it was part of the Il Castellino spa as it appears to be on the internet site...but its not. We arrived early on the Sunday afternoon and thanks to the wonder of GPS found the bottom of the road where the apartment was and as we drove half way up this horrifc dirt road we decided this couldnt be the place and turned back and called the owner.
She promptly sent the handyman who was great and took us to the apartment....unfortunatly it was at the end of the trecherious dirt road which was approx 1.5kms. We wouldn't venture out at night as our ives would have been at risk driving that single track at night.
The apartment was on the first floor and to get to it we had to climb up a very steep set of internal concrete steps and we had three young kids. When we got to the apartment it was clean but very basic and obviously only for four people, only four knives and forks and four large plates etc....
The apartment was very basic, no hairdryer or anything and during our entire stay the bedlinen and towels where never changed! The dishwasher in the apartment also didnt clean the dishes properly and so we had to hand wash every night. We left after 9 days to go to Rome before travelling home and no refund would be made as we had booked and paid for 13 nights..so watch out the room isn't booked by nightly rates but weekly. To be fair this wasn't a surprise to us during our stay as I had emailed the owner prior to our arrival and asked about a discount for the reduced number of nights and was told no. Another financial issue was on our arrival we where asked for 100 Euros deposit!!!! An unexpected expense. Another bit of traveller information which is good to know if you decide to go here is the local coop, although very very handy, only takes cash! No credit cards.
On a positive note the pool was fantastic and the veiws fantastic. The private garden however as advertised ain't so private and is part of the complex gardens and if the neighbours in the apartment are out sitting in the garden then you are side by side.
When we had any problems with the apartment the handyman repaired them immediatly which was also a bonus., (its not a villa as advertised but an apartment in a holiday resort)
Its also very close the Florence about a 30 minute drive although a little further out for Pisa and Sienna.
Sorry but wouldn't go back here as very expensive for what you get although the staff where very excellent and pleasent.
