It was my wife's birthday, and I wanted to take her somewhere special. As we had eaten lunch here before which was very nice I thought it would be ideal.
The interior is very warm in style and we had two high back arm chairs which were so comfortable.
The service was both very welcoming, and very helpful recommending the mutton as the main course.
We both opted for this choice and, went for the quail scotch egg, and olives with anchovy nibbles to start.
The scotch eggs were melt in the mouth, and with the olives and anchovies providing more tart flavours the two worked together beautifully.
Then came the mutton......cooked to perfection... a tower of mutton with layered potato on a thin bed of beetroot which leeched colour through the potato ( really pretty) and kale as the vegetable. This can only be described as a culinary triumph.
Finally we opted for dessert, Mo selecting rhubarb crumble, and me creme brulee ( though it was called burned vanilla something!!) . Mo was so enamoured with the crumble she had to ask for the topping recipe.....I tried some.....it was gorgeous....as was my dessert.
The best recommendation I can make is to say that before the end of the meal I had booked to stay for our wedding anniversary in July, when of course we will be having some more of their wonderful food.
Best wishes, Rob and Mo Adsley
