I stayed for one night. The proprietor, looking a bit like a young Basil Fawlty, spoke no English and was very well intended, but not too professional.
The rooms are old school and dated, but quite clean. The bathrooms need modernising and the shower is minute. Hot water took about five minutes to arrive. The towels are very small, and not of good quality.
I was on the top floor and there is no elevator. The lobby is small and infrequently manned. No wifi is available, but a WLAN service may be.
The restaurant and bar are popular and staffed by good young Frauleins dressed traditionally.
I needed to leave at 4am and this was an issue. I ended up leaving my key on the recption counter, unlocking the front door and letting myself out. There are light switches on the stairs, but not in the lobby. Without a flashlight I would have been scrambling in the dark.
The food in the restaurant was mediocre and high in carbohydrates and salt. Wines beers a Schnapps were abundant.
The proprietor spent half an hour running around in the evening when he realised I was no longer in the bar and had a small outstanding balance to clear. After knocking on several other doors he woke me up and the account was settled. As I had repeatedly offered him payment and been answered 'Nein!' repeatedly, I was not impressed, and my Fawlty Towers analogy stemmed from this.
It is probably a great place to stay for older tourists and families. Suites are available next door.
