We stayed at this amazing guesthouse last weekend. I was expecting something special, but it was so much more.
Everything about it is perfect. The rooms, the food, the view and the overall ambience. We just couldn't fault it at all. Lesley is just so nice and cheerful, and nothing is too much trouble. She has put so much into her business and it shows.
We had a room at the back of the building, but that made no difference to our stay as the lounge is perfect for sititng and gazing at the views across the estuary, whilst enoying the wine from the well stocked fridge in our room. The jazz on the Bose sytem helped to enforce the relaxing atmosphere.
Our room, No 5, was immaculate and ready for us, even though we arrived before lunch. The furnishings and fittings are of very high quality, as are the ensuite facilities. Lesley obviously knows just what makes the perfect guest accomodation, everything we needed was there, and all of of exceptional quality. Wonderfully comfortable bed, brilliant shower, and lovely classical music to enjoy.
The first evening was spent out on the terrace, eating one of Lesley's wonderful platters, drinking her well chosen wine, and watching the sun go down. Just perfect.
Breakfast the following morning was superb, as the weather, although dull was very still and warm, so we were able to have breakfast on the terrace. The choice of breakfast food is extensive. I would recommend the home made granola with the fruit compote. Healthy but gorgeous. The breakafast on Sunday started with bucks fizz, which was a nice touch.
We left on Sunday as we were travellling to our next stop , the Westvale County house in Far Sawrey, who have an arrangement with No 43 to offer "Coast and Country" weekends. However I would have been more than happy to stay at No 43 a while longer as it is so gorgeous.
We will certainly be back. Next time though I want to stay in one of the suites overlooking the estuary. We were able to have a look at one , and it is very impressive.
Thank you Lesley for allowing us to stay at your beautiful guesthouse.

- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Last night at The Enjoy England for Excellence Ceremony we were awarded Gold for the Best Bed and Breakfast in England by Visit England. The position here is fabulous: a vast sky, a pretty village, the Kent estuary spilling into Morcambe Bay. Huge views shoot off to the Lake District, where distant peaks take to the skies. You're at the end of the road, more likely to be disturbed by commuting birds than a car, so sit on the terrace and watch the train puff across the viaduct or follow a flock of geese as they sweep through the valley. As for Number 43, interiors shine after a total renovation. You get glossy books and great views in the sitting room, then an honesty bar in the dining room, where delicious communal breakfasts set you up for the day: freshly squeezed orange juice, baskets of patisserie, porridge with honey and sugar, the full Cumbrian works. Bedrooms vary in size, but all are elegant with warm colours, fabulous linen, excellent beds, sparkling bathrooms. Two suites have the view, one has a free-standing bath by the window in its en-suite. ... more less
