We stayed at the Alicante Hills apartments in august 2011 and overall it was an enjoyable stay.
The whole place was new and clean, apart from a splodge of what looked like food really high up near the ceiling that was there when we arrived and still there when we left 5 days later.
Apart from that though, the rooms and overall cleanliness of the hotel was great.
We got our room upgraded for free for some reason, so we had 4 beds, lounge with tv and settee, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen between the two of us - was very nice! :)
The kitchen was very clean and modern, and our only issue with that was the splodge and the fact they had put the cutlery drawer above the cooker, so when we were cooking tea it got VERY hot...
Pool was a bit small and not very deep, ideal for cooling off and for kids - not really for swimming in though.
2 x hot tubs were cool (well, warm) too :)
Bar staff were lovely, prices not too bad and if you go self catering and cant be bothered to cook, the food wasnt too bad at the onsite restaurant and not too expensive either.
I would recommend hiring a car or sorting some kind of transport, as to walk from the hotel to where all the bars and restaurants are in the main part of alicante is a bit of a mission, along a very busy duel carriageway - we did rent a car but saw lots of people walking and it didnt look fun.
Beaches nearby were OK, dark sand and it did seem to be less touristy than a lot of the other places in spain we've stayed at.
Overall nice, but we probably wouldnt go there again simply due to the area - the hotel was fine :)
