Four of us (two couples) spent two weeks at this hotel - 18/9/11 to 2/10/11, and all agreed that it is overall probably the best 4 star we've stayed in. Sea view rooms and the "all inclusive" options are definitely recommended. Many guests started out on half board but most converted fairly quickly as all drinks i.e. bottled water, tea, coffee, cocktails, spirits and mixers tend to be fairly expensive (general over the whole of Crete).
The food quality, variety, and presentation was exceptionally good, with a fantastic choice during all meals. Crepes are prepared to order, and if you really didn't fancy any of the main dishes available then the chef could prepare any sort of omelette whilst you wait.
The dining room, all pool areas, and all other public rooms/areas were kept spotlessly clean at all times. The bedrooms were also kept clean with towels etc being changed when necessary. Beach towels are provided. Currently however, the hotel does not have tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms (in the hotel's customer survey we did suggest that it would be a good idea to include these in the package).
We found all the staff very friendly and helpful - some in fact have been with the hotel for over 20 years - at least one for over 30 years!
The evening entertainment was generally above average with professional acts on stage most evenings.
Everything about the hotel was great and we would all certainly stay there again if ever we went back to Crete. Be carefull however if you decide to hire a car.
There are at least three car hire companies very close to the hotel. After checking prices we unfortunately decided on a company by the name of Greenways. I will repeat that - the company name was GREENWAYS! We asked for an automatic for 7 days, We ended up with one for two days (which cost extra because it was larger than the one we requested), and a smaller one for 5 days. As far as fuel is concerned the deal is that you return the car with the same amount of fuel in the tank as when you took it over. When we tried to refuel the first car ready for return.......the fuel guage stuck! Consequently we ended up putting in far too much. We informed the agent (who spoke very good English) that the guage was faulty and asked for an adjustment to be made either in the form of a refund or in the amount of fuel we left in the second car. He said he would see what could be done.
The second car turned out to be a real bone shaker with a warning light glowing permanently. The agent told us to ignore the warning light! The tank was also virtually empty
(so no chance of us making up for the fuel in the other car). When explaining the controls the agent admitted that he didn't know what the positions "L" and "2" were on the automatic gearbox. During use we found that the car door locking system did not always lock properly, leaving one or two doors unlocked. On a run of around 147 kilometres the mileometer only added 20 to the reading - so the 190000 showing on the meter was probably a little out in it's accuracy! Needless to say - when we returned the second car the agent refused to give us a refund on the fuel in the first car, despite the fact that it was their fuel guage that was faulty.
It goes without saying that - if we see a car hire company by the name of GREENWAYS anywhere in the greek islands or on the mainland of Greece - we will not go anywhere near them!
