Beck Hall has to be one of the best kept secrets of a B&B in this lovley Highland area of England. The setting is exquesite with a Trout stream running through the property. A very tranquel setting. Great hiking trails in the area which are too numerous to mention.
Simon runs the B&B which has lovley large rooms all with private baths. The braekfast was good but not Gourmet cooking.
One unique feature is the "Honor Bar" in the main lounge. You simple pour what you want ( wine, beer, liquor ) & then enter it in a log. Many nice Pub's in the area for dining.
I give this B&B a 4* rating.

“great if you like dogs!”

Beck Hall Malham

20 Jun 2008

In a lovely location and picturesque setting but I felt it did not live up to previous reviews. Our room in the extension was beautifully furnished with the most comfortablest of beds, but the strong odour of the previous occpants dog lingered for days as dogs are allowed in guests rooms. The garden looked uncared for and some of the rooms were dated with stale smelling towels. Breakfast was very average. The smoked haddock was raw on one occasion. The young staff appeared very friendly but it would have been nice to see more of the highly regarded owner as previous guests have. Over all, we enjoyed our stay because of the walking we were able to do, the lovely weather we enjoyed and meals at the Listers Arms, not the accomadation provided unfortunately.

Hi LincolnshireDuchess, many thanks for your review. I'm sorry Alice and I missed you during our stay, I suspect from the dates we may have been away that week, sorry! We're only away 2 weeks of the year and leave a great crew in charge when we do go on holiday. Sorry for the undercooked haddock, we've had words with the chef!

In terms of doggies 5 of our 17 rooms are available for doggies, and we always scrupulously clean in between so I do apologise. We work hard to make sure all our doggy and not doggyd guests have a relaxing and fun time. When booking it is always possible to ask for a non-doggy room, there are plenty of them.

Anytime anyplace you're not happy with something, please please tell somebody! We can always correct anything we've overlooked, although we obviously try not to overlook anything ever. We would much rather know about something at the time and make it right than hear about it weeks afterwards. We always share these things amongst ourselves at Beck Hall so if one area is starting to slip we can correct it for good. But the sharpest eyes always belong to the guest.

I hope that we see you again sometime at Beck Hall. All the best,

Simon and Alice

Just returned today 28/5/08, lovely old inn/hotel with welcoming hosts and roaring fire in lounge which also supplied books, many games and an honesty bar which was kept well supplied with all drinks & mixers plus nuts, crisps etc, even small tins of vaseline to protect walkers lips & noses in temperate climes. No rip off prices here, hubby said bottled beers cheaper than pubs.
Stayed in green bedroom which was four poster antique with a bed and pillows to die for. Shower great, hairdryer, radio alarm, hospitality tray, radiators and even a hot water bottle supplied, No TV but why would U want one.
Breakfast excellent and on till 10am which suited my lifestyle, [ Didn,t have dinner as finished at 6pm during week but on till 7.30 at weekends ] although it smelled delicious as we passed by dining room. If eating after these times go to Old Vic 1 mile up road ,food excellent there, not too good in other hostelries near Beck hall.
River runs through the grounds with ducks and offspring, very soothing & interesting. Although not into dogs myself this was a dog friendly inn and pet owners kept them well under control.
The couple who run this Inn have got hospitality off to an art , they are friendly but not overbearing and appear to have judged visitors needs to an inch, their prices for everything they provide is spot on and I congratulate them for their proficiency.

Originally stayed on my birthday near christmas 5 years ago. We searched all over for the TV, in cupboards, everywhere but didn't find one! But it didn't matter, we sat near the fire for ages relaxing. A fabulous olde worlde place in the middle of such beautiful country. Their best asset is themselves, Alice and Simon, nothing is too much trouble for them. The lounge with the log fire is fantastic, 17th century.

always go to the Buck Inn for friendliness, more cosy fires, sofas and delicious good value food. The vegetarian Thai red curry was raelly tasty, combined with the heat from the fire, phew!

I can't praise this place enough. We always come back feeling totally relaxed.

    • Liked — Olde worlde charm and Alice and Simon
    • Disliked — We were awakened by the sound of gnawing from an animal just outside our open bedroom window, which we promptly closed!

“Beck Hall - Home away from home”

Beck Hall Malham

Beck Hall is the essence of hospitality. The property is well maintained and frequented by repeat customers - with good reason. We came directly from overseas to regain our jet lag and it was the perfect place to do just that. Central to lots of interesting walking features, the hotel makes a great base for a multiday stay. The breakfasts are made to order, ample and well prepared. The family atmosphere is most welcoming and everyone is cheery and helpful. Beck Hall is a fantastic respite from the hustle of the city. I awoke with a start the first morning to realize that I had not heard a single lumbering bus pass by or clattering along the street - just peace and quiet. Beck Hall is a great place to recharge your batteries in pleasant surroundings and refreshing countryside vistas. Don't miss it. It is easy to understand why people come back and I will do so at my next opportunity.
