Wonderful 12th century building bursting with charactor and history. Public rooms packed full with art , period pieces , long tables , suits of armour , and weaponry. Extensive terraces outside for al fresco affecionados .
An especially nice suprise was to find that the inn has such a flourishing local trade which gave an authentic atmosphere to the stay. This also helped to keep the doom bar, abbot ale , & jail ale in really good condition. The addlestone cloudy cider was ok too !
bar meals were good quality & moderately priced. the breakfast was well cooked and very unusually arrived at the table hot, (if only this would catch on !)
As this was a work trip we had booked a twin budget room at a very reasonable price ,using Toprooms , and that is what we got , So no big moans ,but i have to say that i agree with the chorus of other visitors that 30 year old bath and shower fixings that don't generate water under pressure , will stop this hotel providing the all round experience that its quality deserves.
we spotted a mechanical digger in the grounds, which hopefully is bringing in the new water main , not a moment too soon.
That apart,..........wonderful !
