Perhaps my wife and I were at Dalmunzie at just the right time, because everything was top notch, from the greeting, to the room, to the meals. We were passing through, so we only stayed one night. It had been a sunny day, and I planned to jog to the main road and back in the morning. When I pulled back the curtains (Stewart Room) to look out, to our delight it had snowed about two inches and was snowing still. Just one more wonderful surprise.
The only negative was that our room was a bit too chilly, as was most of the castle. It was nice to warm up by the fireplace in the sitting room, though.
Our host was very attentive during our stay, answering questions we had about the estate, the area, and whether to forge on north despite the snow (it was fine). If it hadn't snowed to make the scenery even more beautiful, I would have first raved about the food, which was possibly the best we had ever eaten. Spend the extra money to experience dinner. Although at least one review of the castle references how "quirky" it is, that, to us, is part of the charm (a mixture of old and new). If we pass though that way again we will definitely stay at Dalmunzie. To us it was magical.
Try the Stewart Room with its four-poster bed.
