This is a wonderful hotel, and the owner David is a true gentleman. The rooms are clean, comfortable, the decor is classy and not chintzy, and breakfast in the restaurant is very good indeed. The bar is relaxed and not at all rowdy, which is great, as we have two small children. We arrived after midnight for our stay, after a very tiring car journey from London. David gave us a very warm welcome and immediately brought us to our rooms. He was also a fount of local information. Thorpeness itself is a very eccentric resort - we were there to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday, it wouldn't have been an obvious first choice for a weekend away, but we're glad we had such a great hotel. So if you do happen to be visiting, you probably couldn't get a better place to stay than the Dolphin.
