My sister and I have just returned from a 3 night stay in the Cromleach. Getting there on the very narrow roads COULD be a problem if you meet on-coming traffic but people are so mannerly and helpful, there is always a compromise for passing cars.
The hotel itself is in an idyllic setting - the views of Lough Arrow are stunning. Our weather was superb which obviously helped a lot to accentuate the amazing views.
ACCOMMODATION: We had to pay 15 euros per night for an upgrade to a Superior Classic room and I am glad we did when we saw the "Standard Rooms" - with no view! (The reviews for the Standard Rooms are NOT good on Trip Advisor - take note!)
The room was very spacious and we had a 'turn-down' service (which we didn't use) and it was nice to have the bottled water provided each day (AND biscuits for our coffee!)
The bathroom was spacious and ample toiletries provided should they be required. Towels were quite hard, not great quality and the bath towel very small!.
If there had to be a criticism - the room is a little 'tired' (we were in the Knocknarea Suite) - the carpet was stained and curtains faded etc. With a 'face-lift' this room could be really good.
Outside our door was a little 'sitting area' with outdoor furniture - we only saw 2 people walking along to the area but it was covered in cigarette butts - it was not pleasant as we sat outside in the sun - and the butts remained there for the duration of our stay!
STAFF: Tom welcomed us at Reception and could not have been more helpful. We also met 2 of the other reception staff who were also friendly and helpful.
Moira, the owner of the hotel, was extremely pleasant and it was nice to have a chat with her to hear the history of the hotel etc.
The secret of the success of this hotel is obviously due to the fact that Moira and Christie seem to be there 24/7 keeping a watchful eye on all that happens.
FOOD: We had dinner on one evening and it was delicious. Attention was paid to detail and service was excellent.
Breakfast was good enough - but only scrambled egg available (poached egg was provided when requested) I personally do not like the food being kept hot - I much prefer to order breakfast and have it fresh. On the first morning they had run out of orange juice - not good!
This, of course, is only a paltry matter as sitting in the dining room looking out over the scenery in such peaceful conditions more than made up for the lack of orange juice!
The hotel itself is kept immaculately with beautiful flower arrangements everywhere (which we discovered are created by Moira herself - I don't know when she gets a minute to do them!)
SPA area - although we did not use the Spa it looked so relaxing - but the 'hot-tub' area was visible from just outside our bedroom and it did not come up to the standard which was advertised on the web-site.
I would recommend this hotel but suggest you use sat-nav to get there; be careful and drive very slowly on the roads (whether you come from Drumshanbo direction or from Castlebaldwin)
It is not suitable for walking if you have pains and aches! VERY hilly.
Suggestions to hotel: Bedroom needs to be re-decorated with new carpets, curtains, etc.
Softer towels would be nice! A selection of breakfast juices would be appreciated. Not everyone likes (or can take) orange juice. A better selection of Continental Breakfast would also be an advantage.
Maybe at some time in the future it would be good to add a pool/gym area.
All in all - we had a wonderful time at the Cromleach and hope to return some day soon.
