Stayed at The Woolpack for 2 nights as a quick getaway. The village is tiny, but very quaint. Lovely old buildings, and quiet roads. Our room was large and airy, with lots of seating. The bed was a standard double, which looked deceptively comfy! Sadly, my husband & I both slept poorly as we found the mattress a little soft, but that is personal preference and nothing to do with the Woolpack. There are tea and coffee making facilities, which are fine, although we did have to ring down for more milk (but we do take more milk than most in our tea).
The sofa in the room was large and comfortable and there was a fold out single bed in the cupboard, with linen if needed.
The bathroom has to have the largest sink I have ever seen and the shower is huge! Slight gripe with the shower was there the water pressure wasnt great - we are used to a power shower at home - but it did the job fine. Towels are again massive and fluffy - lovely!
The room was very quiet, although you could hear music from the pub downstairs if it was busy.
Food- wise, The Woolpack is a bit of a mixed bag! I found the breakfasts a little disappointing - the buffet selection was great - a good choice and the fruit was fresh and well prepared. There is a good selection of jams and spreads, and the pastries were lovely! I found the cooked breakfasts lacked seasoning, but aside from that, they were fine. Toast was on-tap and made with lovely fresh, thick bread. Yummy!
Lunches and dinners were superb! We had the sharing platter when we first arrived, followed by the desert platter - both of which were gorgeous. We had the haddock & chips one evening and this is a total bargain! 2 large portions of fish & chips, with peas for less than £11? We were stuffed after eating it! The mushy peas were to die for, and the fish was outstanding - I can see why they have won awards for it!
The staff were lovely - friendly and attentive without being too fussy. Nothing was ever too much trouble and service was very quick and efficient.
With Longleat only 15 mins away, Nunney about 10 minutes away, The Woolpack is a lovely place to spend a couple of nights exploring the area. Definitely would return again!
