We go to Downings every summer and have done since about 2002. Sometimes we stayed in the caravan site but in more recent years we have brought more and more of our family and so decided to stay in the Beach. It never disappoints - the rooms are always beautifully kept, neat and tidy and the craic is fantastic! Whether it is a meal in the bar, or karaoke night, or just a lovely home-made breakfast, the Beach is always a perfect place to stay and nothing is ever too much trouble for their charming owners, Mairead and Charlie, and their staff. Mairead in particular is an absolute delight, lovely to talk to and takes an interest in everything and everyone - even remembering everyone's names! Downings, for us, holds a great deal of sentimental value and it is a place where we all have very fond memories of time shared with our great friend Rosi. It is always touching to see that Mairead keeps her photograph close by.
The Beach hotel is perfectly located, two minutes walk from the beautiful Downings beach, which is picturesque and perfect for family days and for those who are brave enough - pier jumping is a must! Also close by are the Harbour Bar, which is always full of atmosphere, and the green golf course for those who are interested! The Atlantic Drive is a must see - stunningly beautiful with all sorts of nooks and crannies to be discovered! Tra na Rossan (beach) is breathtakingly beautiful, and the waves and dunes at Murder Beach are not to be missed!
Downings truly is a magical place, and the enchantment begins at the Beach Hotel!
