We stayed here in July 2007 for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
The hotel is a lovely listed building in a great location on the River Yealm, great walks in the grounds along the river. Would definitely recommend that you pay a little bit extra and go for one of the state rooms as they are really nicely done. Ours (the Repton Suite) was huge, lovely big comfy bed, big leather sofa, big flat screen TV etc. I looked at some of the other suites too and they were all very nice, especially the "honeymoon suite" which is called the Churchill suite (I think) - ask for the one at the top of the stairs with the roll top bath.
There isn't much actually to do at the hotel apart from relax. They do have croquet on the lawns, but no snooker room.
We ate at the hotel on one evening and the food was just mediocre, quite nice, but nothing special we felt, certainly for the published price of £35/head. There is a gastro-pub in Yealmpton, also a fish restaurant, another pub, or you could go down to the pretty villages of Newton Ferrers or Noss Mayo which both have 3 pubs.
Breakfasts were good, the produce was local and tasty.
Dogs are very welcome at the hotel.
Lovely area, great walks along the coast path at Wembury.
We would recommend this hotel for a relaxing stay. They do seem to have alot of weddings there so you may want to check that none are planned for your visit as the hotel was rather "taken over" on our last day by a wedding party.
