“Lovely hotel, food mediocre”

We stayed here in July 2007 for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
The hotel is a lovely listed building in a great location on the River Yealm, great walks in the grounds along the river. Would definitely recommend that you pay a little bit extra and go for one of the state rooms as they are really nicely done. Ours (the Repton Suite) was huge, lovely big comfy bed, big leather sofa, big flat screen TV etc. I looked at some of the other suites too and they were all very nice, especially the "honeymoon suite" which is called the Churchill suite (I think) - ask for the one at the top of the stairs with the roll top bath.
There isn't much actually to do at the hotel apart from relax. They do have croquet on the lawns, but no snooker room.
We ate at the hotel on one evening and the food was just mediocre, quite nice, but nothing special we felt, certainly for the published price of £35/head. There is a gastro-pub in Yealmpton, also a fish restaurant, another pub, or you could go down to the pretty villages of Newton Ferrers or Noss Mayo which both have 3 pubs.
Breakfasts were good, the produce was local and tasty.
Dogs are very welcome at the hotel.

Lovely area, great walks along the coast path at Wembury.

We would recommend this hotel for a relaxing stay. They do seem to have alot of weddings there so you may want to check that none are planned for your visit as the hotel was rather "taken over" on our last day by a wedding party.

“Fantastic place”

Kitley House Hotel

19 Apr 2007

This is a beautiful hotel in the middle of no where. The rooms were loverly although mine was a little small and i never found the tv remote! Everything was very clean and tidy.

The views are stunning and its nice to have a walk in the morning. I found the food fantastic, although it was a little pricey at 18.50 GBP for a main course. The breakfast was also very good my continental was like a ploumans lunch.

All in all the rooms are tidy, the food is loverly and the staff are very poite and helpful. Well work the stay and excellent value for money!

“Great setting”

Kitley House Hotel

8 Dec 2006

Nice setting. Friendly staff. We stayed for one night, glad we weren't staying longer. Food O.K. but nothing special. Room very large but in need of re-furbishment. It was tacky, not the standand you would expect.

“Great wedding venue. Hidden Gem!!!”

We stayed here recently for my brothers wedding. It was such a great little hotel.

We only stayed the one night and it was the third wedding they had, had that weekend but the staff were very friendly and made us all feel very welcome.

The rooms were great - had everything you could need. Including an iron, bottles of water, stunning views.

We had a suite which was £120 a night and was brilliant value. The rooms are not new and flashy but they are clean and capture the old country house feel brilliantly.

The gardens were great! It was a sunny day so we got to enjoy the gardens and views late into the night.

Food was 5* we had the best puddings we have ever had in out enitre lives!!!

This hotel is a great little find and I am sure you will be really pleased with your stay here.

We stayed for 3 nights recently - a deal from LateRooms. The house itself is in an impressive setting, with a long, leafy drive up to the hotel, which is a marvellous and very old house. Our room had to be changed due to a wedding party taking up the ground floor. The first night was spent in an attic room - with a huge bed! Staff were very friendly and helpful and moved us to the ground floor the following day. Breakfasts were wonderful and well cooked. The only negative was that the woodwork needed re-painting in every room we visited. Seemed a shame that this lovely house didnt appear to be as well cared for as it might.
Also the dinner menu didn’t appeal due to its price and content - almost each main course had an ingredient neither of us enjoys. We drove over to the next village Newton Ferrers where the Dolphin pub has reasonable meals. We had the best meal however, at the Ship Inn at Noss Mayo - watch the tide though!
