We booked our stay here when we did due to a "Come On" by Expedia that if we booked by Friday @ midnight Pacific Time we'd get a $100 gas card. I saw their "Ad" one night in July. I spent several hours checking reviews and comparing things and started through the online booking process. By 11:30 PM Eastern Time I was just putting in my credit card info when Expedia's site went down! They had a little page up that said, "Sorry! Working on the site - Come back tomorrow" So I did. I booked it, but no reference to the gas card so I called and they SAID they would honor the gas card, but they never did. Repeated emails went totally ignored.
THEREFORE: Being on a tight budget, we didn't drive around the island much. Rincon Beach Resort, as the previous writer said, was beautiful, but it was completely quiet which WAS what we wanted in our stay. We also had the good luck that the pool bar and outdoor grill bar were open most of the times we were at the pool. (We were there August 22 through August 29: The bars and even the pool are going to be closed in early September!).
We noticed that things did tend to close anyway when it rained each day, so if you were there between say 3 PM and 6 PM it might be closed for the latter part of the bars' hours. Also, August is not "high season" (August in the Carribean..duh) so there weren't probably enough customers to justify opening much later. Many times it was just us two at the pool side bar for example, and we just ordered our one beer.
Things to do: They do have QUIET activities on site: Plaza bar and TVs, exercise room, Giant Chess boards, tennis, golf putting green and we saw children on the playground. Also sailing and kayaking rentals are available there. Friends we met at the RBR did a heck of a lot, however. (Bigger budget, I guess!) They went snorkeling, zip-lining, to the luminescent bay explored a festival in Ponce and shopping in Rincon and Mayaguez.; however as the previous review said that's all outside and beyond the resort. We did wander to Arecibo (observatory - good for astronomy enthusiasts) Rincon (a few quaint shops). The Lazy Parrot was completely dead when we went @ 5 PM one weekday, although the Calypso Cafe around the corner was hopping! We had a great meal at the Harbour Restaurant and watched a storm off in the distance over the water while we ate (snapper good, mahi-mahi not so much) in the enclosed air conditioned restaurant.
All in all, a nice place to go if you want to just chill and relax. Very VERY comfortable - even in August! Great Breezes (at the Resort - not off site!)
