I stayed at this hotel last year with my partner. The rooms that take 4people (with the sofa bed) are really spacious and clean. They could quite comfortably sleep a family. We asked for a quiet room and were put in the same block as the spa. We had a lovely private balcony overlooking the promenade with sea views as all of the rooms in this hotel have.
We were on a half board basis but I would recommend to stay bed and breakfast as dinners can get quite samey as with most places and also the restaurant is quite busy. The hotel is within walking distance to Amadores beach and also Puerto Rico, 15mins walk along the prom to each, but I wouldn't recommend attempting to walk it if you have any walking difficulties.
The pool areas were lovely and clean as well. There are 2 pool areas, one with the childrens play area and one near a nudist enclosure.
Overall it is a large hotel with friendly staff and we enjoyed our stay. I would say though that as with most good hotels it seems to attract the older crowd so if listening to the hotel singer singing ballads every night isn't your thing (as it wasn't mine) you can jump into a taxi for a couple of euro and head into Puerto Rico.

Arrived Saturday evening a little anxious after reading some of the reviews. I was more than pleasantly surprised! no waiting around at check in, very pleasant helpful staff, a glass of champagne as we were checking in and then we went up to our room. The views in this hotel are more than breathtaking!! They are out of this world!!
The room was basic but spotless...some people have ranted on about the furniture and the lack of a flat screen TV,..but if its the furniture that catches your eye and not the view..get your head checked!!
We didnt eat at this hotel but the restaurants in Puerto Rico and Amadores are so nice that i wouldn't want to be eating in the same place every night.
We went to the commercial centre most nights and a bar there called Picadilly's was great craic!! Taxi back to hotel only €3

Had evening drinks back at the hotel twice but the service is slow enough so be patient if you are going to be heading back for a night cap!!

Went to Maspalomas once to go to water park! Is too expensive! €25 each for adults, you then also have to hire out a locker when you go in! The taxi there was also €25 so the day cost us €100!! Wouldn't go back!

The swimming pools are amazing, the pool area is spotless and there was always more than enough sunbeds!! We stayed at the higher pool which seemed to be a little quieter.

All in all we had a great holiday, we wished we stayed longer than a week. Will defiantly return!!

Having read many of the reviews on hotel,i would have to go along with most of them. This is a good hotel in a great location if you don`t want to be in the heart of Puerto Rico.We arrived 3 hours late and just in time for breakfast which was of a decent standard apart from last 2 days i felt but we did notice their had been a staff change. The last 2 days we ate breakfast out(The Irish Cottage or London Pride at Amadores Beach do a decent fried breakast). We had no problems with checking in and we had a high floor room as we had asked, this was cleaned and towels changed everyday of our stay.We also hired pool towels as well, which you can change everyday if you want to.The pool is fantastic and plenty of beds and parasols to go round. The hotel was very peaceful during the day at the top pool and even during the nights we certainly never experienced any noise that kept us awake. For us Puerto Rico was not our cup of tea and we preffered Amadores Beach during the day.We did try Churchills pub in the Commercial Centre once for something to eat and it was decent food at a decent price. The touts put us off this area and we stayed away from it as much as possible.Only going into Puerto Rico during the day when i had to go visit the doctor.Whom i most say rescued my holidays as i was suffering a bit with problems with my hands. Can`t recommend the Paul the British doctor enough!!Puerto Mogan is a nice place to visit and we did it on a non market day.I would say that though we did feel a second week at this resort was perhaps to long and a week to ten days would have been nicer but if you are the type of person that can lie beside a pool or beach for two days then this would be ideal for you.First time either of us had been to Gran Canaria and we would return thought i think to Maspalomas as their seems to be more to do at that resort. The weather was pefect which made a change for us as our last holiday to Salou had been ruined with rain for near enough the entire 2 weeks. All in all it was a great break, just what we needed, though we could`nt do the whole lie beside the pool for 2 weeks everytime we went on holiday.

Me and boyfriend arrived at the hotel around 4 in the morning. Our first impression was WOW. The entrance was stunning in my opinion and was very classy. We were greeted by a lovely security guard who gave us a bottle of water each and check in was simple and no fuss.

The rooms were lovely, very spacious, and the bathrooms were gorgeous.

The views are absolutly breathtaking, all you can see it sea for miles, its lovely.

The buffet is excellent, there is a wide range of food, however i do recommend at your evening meal, sitting down and placing drink orders first, as i did find it alot of fuss when paying for your drinks as the waiter stands by your table for at least 5 minutes, which makes you feel uncomfortable and ur food go cold.

The panoramic lift is great too! And the swimming pools, WOW. They are infinity pools, and there is plenty of sunbeds.

Puerto rico beach is quicker to get to than amadores, probably about a 5 minute walk, wheras Amadores beach is probably 10-15, depending on how fast you walk. I don't reckon much to puerto rico beach, bit big, and bland, but amadores is gorgeous with white sand and crystal clear waters.

Stay clear of the beaches on sundays if you don't like the crowds, as it's full of locals.

One thing i will comment on is that, gran canaria is FULL of germans, and spanish...and Irish. It gets a bit irritated constantly being surrounded by people who don't speak English whatsoever, to be honest, i didn't come across many english at all to be honest, they only seemed to come out at night.

The entertainment in the hotel is very good, however we didn't really take advantage of it, we went upto the Europa centre of an evening, there is a lovely cocktail bar there run by the Barbacoa, a popular show bar. It's the main place there in the Europa. At first i was slightly put off by its interior, but there is hilarious shows, the staff are very friendly, and more importantly it's VERY ENGLISH.

Money wise, prices are about the same in this country.
If you goto Maspalomas, which i recommend if you want to see the sand dunes, and do lots of shopping, do not get a taxi back to puerto rico. It costs 25 euro, the bus is very easy and cheap.

Overall, i have visited Gran Canaria twice, and i probably will never visit again, not because i hate the place, because there is not alot there at all. It's very barren outside resorts, and there isn't a great deal to see or do. However, it's a great family resort, but i wouldn't recommend two weeks there. You'd probably be bored out your head!
But Gloria Palace is a wonderful hotel, and Gran Canaria is truely a great place to relax and chill out!!

I and my girlfriend have just returned from Gloria Palace Amadores/ Glorie Palace Royal. This is my first review on Gloria Palace Amadores which we stayed 4 nights before being upgraded to Gloria Palace Royal which is situated opposite Amadores lovely beach.

After a delayed flight due to two drunken passengers been escorted off by security flying with Thomas Cook TCX308K departing Glasgow on the 11/07/09 we reached our hotel transfer around 5.30am -6.00am. On arrival everything looked very clean including the decor, Piano situated near reception I was very impressed on my first views of the hotel.

We then were waiting roughly about 20 minutes before we were welcomed by a male staff member who did not look too pleased to be on the nightshift welcoming his guests. We were giving a form to sign for our hotel room and then the card was placed on the counter and we were wished goodnight.

After taking the lift to our room which was on the 3rd floor we arrived in a room which appeared to be full of cigarette smoke and was very dimly lit upon putting the main light on so we could see what we were doing. We then took a further look around to see a shabby sofa lying in the corner of the room which looked as if it has been there since the dawn of time covered with dirt and cigarette marks where people have been smoking in the room.

We checked the bathroom which seemed to be just as bad, dirt on the bath/shower combined. And looking very dimily lit again. The toilet door would not close properly and looked as if it had been repaired before as it was not sitting in it's frame correctly. No flat screen instead an OLD CRT Screen.

There was washing guard outside to hang our clothes this was also broken and we were unable to hang our things out to dry. The Finalstraw was the balcony door which would not lock after inspecting the view which is the onlything which could not be faulted overlooking the lovely sea.

We went back to reception with our cases to see if we could move to another room immediately after not been impressed by the first. The Receptionist was very rude to us slamming the hotel room card down and advised that the hotel was full and there was nothing he could do and carried on serving another couple who stood waiting. He then approached us again as we weren't leaving the desk and he wrote us another room/card out and again slammed it on the counter with a security guard who appeared to be watching the situation very closely in the background. We did not once raise our voices to him just merely stated the issues we had with the room as we were both very tired after our journey.

Again we made our way to the second room. Upon entering a room which was smoke free we reliased we were given a family interconnect room which had another door leading to another room. A very small one at that which had very little room to swing a cat let a lone walk around the bed/ view overlooking the back of the swimming pool instead of a seaview which we specified when we booked the holiday in the first place we were not impressed.

We decided after bit of discussion to keep our first room and have a sleep on it and speak to our rep at the welcome meeting. We returned to reception and handed the night staff the card and said we would speak to our rep and advised of the family interconnect room./view etc. He huffed and we made our way to the room after he seemed to be having a loud discussion with the security guard.

Cut along story short we decided to stay in the first room as we were late getting up for our breakfast with being so tired and moving about in the first place Until the 3rd day my girlfriend ended up getting food poisoning which I highly suspect this could be due to the food in the hotel as we did not eat anything but for the first few days due to us being half board...

On that note of the food appeared to be half cooked included sausage in the morning which was either cold or uncooked. Steaks/and other meats which appeared to be either pink in the middle and unedible. Very little choice and ended up very disorganised with not coordination everything was piled from one end of the room to another with very little choice seemed to be the samethings most days/nights. Luckily we had travel insurance so that covered the £400+ medical bill.

We saw our Thomas Cook rep Michael after spending 4 nights at the hotel who listened and documented our grievences with the hotel food/Night Staff/And the Room/. We were offered to be upgraded to a sister hotel which I will write a first class review when I get the first opportunity we paid 69 Euro and got a taxi five minutes down the road and I would say it was the best decision made Thomas Cook compensated us for the half board supplement which we would have had to pay on arrival and amongst other guests who had arrived were given Champagne on arrival and an apology for the hassle we had previously we made the best decision to move hotels.

Overall we enjoyed our holidays and I will include the photos of the room to demonstrate the standards. If your needing any advice please don't hesitate to contact either of us.
