My wife and I stayed in July 2010 half board for two weeks and having traveled the world 5 star and I can tell you this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. we had a standard room which was spacious and had a fab bathroom with his and hers wash basins, big flat screen tv, nice seating area and a balcony with sea and sunset views. there was fresh fruit and a bottle of complimentary wine. The resort is spread out with the rooms in small blocks two stories high giving a degree of privacy. Some rooms have there own plunge pools, others have shared pools although we felt that you sacrifice a little privacy with these and then there is the standard rooms.
The main pool is huge and very nice with views over the sea and plenty of sun beds, the pool bar is well run with attentive staff who every now and then bring ice cold face towels and chopped fruit to the sun bathers! There is a separate kids pool and area, there were a few kids around the main pool but it was still a calm and relaxed atmosphere.
The staff were without exception fantastic and very friendly we got to know most of them and they really looked after us, getting us the best tables at diner and topping up wine etc. The Maitre de in the main restaurant was a formidable character but don't confuse this with aloofness or ruddiness as he ran a very tight ship and consequently the service was spot on. There are 3 restaurants, the main one, Italian and Asian. The main restaurant is very smart and has a large terrace with sea and sunset views. It is quite formal, no shorts for men which we liked and most people made an effort and there was a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with a bit of glam.
Now on to the food............ Which was amazing! Although buffet style the selection and quality at both breakfast and dinner was outstanding. If you didn't like the food or get bored with the selection then there is something wrong with you. I could write reams about the food but I will just touch on it there was a selection of sea food, king prawns, squid, fish etc chefs cooking waffles, crapes, eggs to order at breakfast and steaks and other meats at dinner, huge selection of fruits and puddings, vegetables, salads, breads to name a few.
TOP TIP: I recommend you go halfboard as some people were on B&B and had to pay
€40 ea for dinner. As for the other restaurants, as the main restaurants was so good we only tried the others once each both being excellent, the Italian has a proper pizza oven and the Aisian does sushi and Chinese etc.
Oh did I mention the beach it's ok, sunbeds, watersports, great for snorkelling but the pool is better.
Location: I am aware of some negative reviews on this point, the bottom line is you can't walk into a town from the hotel there is a little train to Pornormo which is worth a visit a few travernas and harbour. It didn't bother me as I wanted a rest, my wife joked that she had trouble getting me to leave the resort. We did however hire a car for a few days and do a
Other tips: Get airport transfers included as the airport is quite a long way away. There is a good mini market 5 minutes walk away for newspapers, snacks, wine and beer etc.
All in all if you can find a better hotel/holiday than this for the money I would be surprised!
Go for a first floor standard room, privacy.
