We wanted to keep this most beautiful resort our own secret, but have to share this review as it exceeded our expectations in so many ways. We met numerous guests from all over that felt the same way but perhaps might not write a review. We talked about tripadvisor with our fellow
British, American and Canadian guests that were also quite surprised by some of the harsh reviews. There were an amazing number of repeat guests, worldly travellers, some returning as many as 6 times! That has to say something about the place.
We spent a week in March celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Twenty five years ago, we spent 10 glorious days at Jolly Beach for our honey moon and are thrilled to say it is still the beautiful gem it was back then. We captured new romantic memories on that fantastic beach and in that incredible ocean.
Over the last 25 years we have visited several all inclusive resorts throughout the Caribbean and Mexico. We have also travelled across North America and parts of Europe. The key point here is that we are experienced travellers knowing the difference between 3 and 5 star resorts.
We believe JB to be a solid 4 star resort for the following reasons:
#1 The beach, you have to see it to believe it-stunning!!! The ultimate for walking, water sports,
swimming and those million dollar sunsets
#2 The staff, you show respect to them and it is returned ten-fold with genuine sincerity and cheerful service. We noticed it in every area of the resort
#3 The food at the buffet was consistantly great. The local fare and fresh produce was lovely. All 3 a la cartes were very good, succulent seafood and the view from Lydia's at night over the ocean with the rolling waves, under the stars was amazing
#4 Not that value was important for this memorable occasion but I have to mention that what you pay for and what you get is excellent value for money. We have paid far more elsewhere and received less, perhaps more impressive rooms, but like others have said, we are not there for the room. We did, however, receive a newly refurbished room that was lovely with a beautiful view, kept impeccably clean and greeted with champagne and tropical flowers
#5 A five minute walk to Jolly Harbour for anything you might need, quaint shops, Epicurean grocery store, lovely boats, pharmacy, bank etc Great excursions to St. John's, Nelson's Dockyard and Shirley Heights.
#6 Polite vendors, not like other islands we've been to where they hound you constently. Speaking of hounding, how refreshing that not once were we approached to buy a time share.
#7 Authentic local entertainment, very passionate about their talent and it showed
#8 Safety was never a concern on this island and the resort has more than adequate security
#9 Plenty of loungers, chairs and no worries with beach towel issues
#10 Last, but certainly not least, the natural beauty of the pristine beach and charming resort has remained intact. It was a relief to know it has not turned in to a high rise complex with loud booming music to disrupt the ambiance.
We would like to thank the new General Manager, Vernon Jeffers. He and his team made us feel very special. The only advice we would give for improvement overall would be for a fresh coat of paint in the high traffic areas (Hemispheres outside eating area)
We can't wait to return because there is so much to love!
Ask for a refurbished room, it is not that much extra. The Anguilla block was close enough to everyt...
