We had booked into this hotel for 10 days but could barely manage the one night there. The only good thing we have to say is that we were able to get most of our money back. This hotel completly misrepresents itself on their website. Do not believe a word that they say. It is dirty, horribly rundown, and smells very bad. The bed was so disgusting--dirty pilled sheets , and hairs found in the bed and on the pillows--that we had to use our beach towels to sleep on. There was an exposed electrical outlet right at the head of the bed. There were lights that did not work, and the lights that did were just bare exposed bulbs coming out of the wall or ceiling. As other reviews have stated they did have alot of rules posted everywhere. One of them was --Cut your meat outside!--whatever that was supposed to mean! The restaurant and bar is a joke. There is no selection at all--what they have is all you can get. Rum or beer was the selection of the bar. There is noone there because they don't even bother to open the bar and the barstools for you to sit on were left stacked on top of the bar. We left the very next morning and enjoyed the rest of our holiday very much at another location!

I've stayed in many hotels and apartments in Tobago since we live in the sister isle of Trinidad. This was without a doubt the worst experience we ever had.

Firstly the price we paid was just less than what we booked a villa for in Easter the year before.

Secondly, we taken aback at the size of the room. It was essentially the same motel sized room with a crammed kitchenette as the rest. Difference being a narrow staircase up to a second level with two beds seperated by a wooden wall, no door. i.e. no privacy.

Thirdly. The condition of the facilities were bad. No knobs worked on the air conditioning unit. Kitchen pans needed replacing, the one knife available was too worn to slice bread or meats. The TV turned itself off when it hit certain channels. Concrete poolside benches were shaky and even fell once.

Fourth. There were non-friendly signs everywhere telling you what not to do. Very unwelcoming. Do you really need to be told how to use a hammock?

Fifth. The restaurant was uninhabited except for the ocassional guest who didn't know better.

Sixth. The hotel is next to a cell phone tower for those who are concerned about the effects of such on their health.

The website of the hotel is an elaborate lie.

  • Liked — The few coral paved walls. Looked awesome, obtaining such is illegal though.
  • Disliked — Pretty much everything else.
  • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Don't sit on the pool benches, the shaky ones could fall and break your foot.

Will not return to simplicity on the middle of nowhere

We stayed at Ocean Point in June 2006 for a few days only. The hotel and rooms are basic with all you need. The best are the matrasses. However, it is basic! The A/C was loud even after fixing, the furniture is run down and the the rooms show cracks in the paint. The pool is clean, big enough to cool down, small enough to look for some other bathtub. The staff is friendly, however, if the resources are limited, they are limited in what they can do for you.
The biggest minus is that it is in the middle of nowhere. You need to take cabs to go to the nice beaches, dining, Crown Point, grocery store etc. Sorry for the property, but that is what you need in a vacation. And, as you order the cab, you got to pay the high rates...
Also, dining, breakfast is extremely boring and limited to some fruit, toast, bacon, egg, tea and juice. Not good enough to get me back to this spot, sorry.
We spent the rest of our vacation somewhere else.

What a dump, we couldnt leave quickly enough! Dont believe what you see or read on their website it is truly misleading.

This place is remote, cramped, adjacent to a road and surrounded by barbed wire! The reception and resturant are only open part time with no shops or bars anywhere near.

Our room was supposedly renovated in 2004 but the furniture and kitchen area dated from the 1950's. The bathroom had mildew growing around the shower floor and was home to a menagerie of bugs. I doubt if it had been cleaned for weeks.

The hotel is up for sale and this shows. The pool and deck equipment is well past its expected life.

What is most surprising about this place is the high room rate .There are many better hotels is Tobago in better locations at a lower rate. Even the Hilton was only 25% more!!

Judging from the reviews I read before booking, I imagined that this hotel was a thriving business. I understand from a frequent neighbouring visitor that this was the case until it was taken over by the previous owners. The hotel is quiet, well-run and spotlessly clean, but the owners fail to attract anyone into their bar or restaurant and the place was dead. The rooms are extremely basic and not a penny more than necessary has been spent. I feel this business is in decline and would not attract tourists from USA, where they expect a higher standard of furnishings.
