Had no idea what to expect as we just took a gamble on a couple of days of cheap sun at the the very end of the season. (Hotel Blue Bay closed the Sunday after we left.) We paid £129 / (148E), for 4 nights.
ROOM - Moved to a Sea view room with small 2 chair balcony early on the second day as requested. About the size of a typical Travelodge room but with a spacious wardrobe, desk and chair. Fairly standard en suite facilities. Shower tray resembled a half length / half height bath. Water pressure and temperature good on the days we were there. Power points for shaver / hairdryer (borrowed from reception). 2 x single beds, fairly firm, with blanket & extra pillows in room. Clean laminate floor, Usual compliment of clean white towels, although a little threadbare. Rooms refreshed daily, (leave sign on handle.) Safe in room (2E daily) big enough for my netbook but NOT a laptop ! Iron (no board) borrowed from reception. (Only the one available so get in early !)
BREAKFAST - This was included in our room rate and was suprisingly good. The breakfast / dining room was bright and welcoming. Usual continental fayre available - Fruit juices / Breads / Croissants / Cold meats and some cheese. Very good fruit selection with yoghurts. Cereals / toast / conserves. Streaky bacon & fried eggs available daily and constantly repelnished. Tea & Coffee (instant only) - decaf available.
COMMUNAL AREAS - Good WiFi in the lobby area / Reasonable priced small bar and seating area. Small stage (no cabaret when we were there). Seating area outside the foyer for smokers and others awaiting transit etc. Lower terraces for sun seekers. Small but reasonably well maintained grounds leading down mid sized but clean tiled pool area. Plenty of sunbeds (in low season anyhow !). Free parking at the rear of the hotel, but quite difficult to find without a map. Corridors and lifts a touch tired but well maintained. Nothing here for the kids if the "animation" team have packed up for the winter - (What a blessing !) Yes - there are steps and gradients, but there's no pain without gain, (and there's no great view without increased elevation either !)
CALA MAYOR - Not a happening place at this end of the year, but enough to keep you entertained for a couple of nights. Nawab - does good Curry. - The Office Bar - does good pints, chat & WiFi - Martins Bar - does good pints, footie and chat. Go into Palma on the bus for authentic restaurants, shopping, history, hustle and bustle.
STAFF - Reasonably fluent in English. polite and efficient. Really bubbly lass attending to clearing and replenishing at breakfast was a cheery soul.
PS - Don't use BK Rent (or Centaur) for car hire. We booked a Smart Car - they gave us a 6 seater ! Used 1/4 tank but charged 81E for full tank ! This is why they appear so cheap over the internet. Don't pay up front. Use one of the "Named" brands and read the small print.
Anything above the 3rd floor on the south side of the hotel has a good harbour and sea view. I got t...
