We've just had a fantastic four days at Thomas Cottage, a lovely old cottage five minutes walk from the centre of Clun. Comfortable bed, lovely en-suite bathroom, tea, coffee (with real milk, not UHT cartons) , fruit juice and home made biscuits in the bedroom. We were in the double bedroom; there is also a single room. Guests have sole use of a lounge/dining room with a wood burning stove, lots of books and games. There is no TV (this is a deliberate decision by the owners), but there is a DVD player in the bedroom if you want to bring stuff to watch. Breakfasts are amazing; fresh fruit salads, yoghurt, cereals, home made preserves and massive full English with eggs from the hens in the garden and locally sourced bacon and sausages. My only small gripe is that service at breakfast is a bit slow, but it is worth the wait and you know the food is freshly prepared - so just chill out and have a leisurely breakfast. We also arranged picnic lunches for two days - huge with home made brownies and biscuits. Debi is a great host; nothing is too much trouble.
Clun is a delightful small town in south Shropshire with friendly locals, a lively community with plenty of entertainment at the local pubs and Clun Memorial Hall, and walks through some of the loveliest scenery in England. In the few days we were there, there was an "open mic" night at the pub, a jazz evening with dinner at Clun Memorial Hall, and Flix in the Stix at the Memorial Hall. Who needs nightclubs?
