My Husband and I stayed at the Residhome for 1.5 weeks in March 2009. The hotel is located on the edge of Paris Sud University so would be great for visiting researchers and their families.
There are a various room types available, we had a studio apartment with a fold out bed which was very comfortable and easy to operate while still made up. The room was impeccably clean, the service was was friendly and very approachable. The kitchen-net was small and located in the entrance hall but it was pretty well stocked and served us well. we didn't have any problems with noise.
There is parking available and the breakfast (extra) was simple but quite well stocked (croissants, pain au chocolates, eggs, bread, juice, cereal, coffee etc.). However if you would like a really great start to the day, why not take a stroll through the forest, down the hill, over the yvette and grab a freshly baked treat from the Bakery. There is also wifi and the hotel feels quite secure. There is a lift - something you do not find in all hotels in France!
Location and grocery shopping:
The Residhome is just up the hill, from the local town of Bures-sur-Yvette, a sweet little village with a lovely bakery and small general store (Casino) and a little further along, after the park, you can find a bigger supermarket (Simply) for all your needs. The small, local farmers market operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays until about 1pm just opposite the park.
Also in Brues-sur-yvette you can find the train station (located on the RER B line) which is about a 40min train ride away from the center of Paris. This is also the line that goes directly to Paris' two main airports (Orly and Charles De Gaulle) so is very convenient for those flying in and if you are arriving at Gare du Nord this line connects there also. If you would like to do a little shopping without heading into Paris, you can catch the bus (there is only one) on the other side of the train station (next to the car-park) to Les Ulis 2 (the last stop) where you will find Carrefour, a large supermarket with all you need and various other stores including clothing, bags, phone/internet stores, Darty - electronics and sporting stores .
If we ever need accommodation in Bures-sur-yvette or the nearby town of Orsay we will defiantly be back.
Liked: The proximity to the University, the room, breakfast and staff.
Disliked: Walking back up the hill from town, although the scenery is beautiful !
