I agree with all the reviews which appear to be consistent in saying what a really good Hotel this is to relax in. The daily (and all day) courteous and respectful Thai greeting from each member of staff really helps set the tone of how to be with yourself in this hotel. You can be as energetic or as chilled as you choose. From daily workouts in the gym or maybe diving and snorkelling to taking taxi trips around the island or making use of the spa or just being beside one of the three pools or even at the beach club ... all can be as positive an experience as you choose.
From our perspective we were challenged by situations outside the control of the hotel! On our first day I was stung by a jellyfish in the sea. It wasn't disastrous and was probably my fault for swimming too close to the boats. I recovered quickly.
At night, we initially chose to eat at the beach (after all that is part of the whole experience) and were careful to choose venues where others were eating as well - on the basis that the empty restaurants might be dodgy!
However my partner succumbed to Thai Tummy and was dreadfully ill all night. A visit to the pharmacy was required in the morning and here the concierge and reception staff were really good. They swung into super helpful mode, were very concerned and had their driver and Indigo Pearl mini bus take me to the Pharmacy with a staff member who spoke English to support me. The pharmacist was really good too and for about 80 baht there was enough medication given for my partner to be well enough the next day. As we were room bound we found we could have gone a bit stir crazy. It is to be rememberd that the hotel design is based on a tin mine. We had a 'basic' plantation villa. If you are a builder to trade we don't recommend you stay here! The grey breeze blocks might make you feel you are on a busman's holiday! But the bed is wonderfully comfortable, (a good place to be ill) the shower good and the outside bath a good laugh! There is a slight shortage of storage space for clothes and the bathroom could have done with a towel rail or two. The lights sure can be complicated to get to grips with. But the air conditioning is excellent and the daily bed and towel changes a real boost.
Being room bound for three days meant there was always one of us able to make good use of the in room dining. Although there wasnt much choice in invalid food the rest of it was good and not wildly expensive.
Sad to say the next night at the beach and at a different venue I was the one to succumb to Thai Tummy part two!!. The trip to the pharmacy this time was in one of the taxis outside the hotel - a round trip was 200 baht, the medication another 80 baht .
Recovery again took one day. So we had a three day holday of ten in a Plantation Villa where the sense of privacy was high. That was a good thing!
We loved the fact that the Hotel was so close to the airport because even although vehicles are air conditioned, the levels of tiredness after all the hours of air travel meant we just didnt want a long trip onwards.
The library behind reception is a great place to feel cooler. It has a selection of books to read and also has four computers for guest use. Two are Apple Macs. If you bring your own lap top it can be used around reception area.
Favourite pool was the adult only with a cool swim in bar - snazzy cocktails. Lunch there one day was £30, but worth it! The hotel supplies lovely huge white towels at the pools - now that felt luxurious!
We had a great trip round the island in a taxi and decided that from now on we will do two different stops on longer haul trips. I think 5 days in the Indigo Pearl (with no sick time out) followed by 5 at another venue in Phuket would have been right for us.
My partner says, smashing bed, good shower, very relaxing, beware beach food and good housekeeping staff.
I say breathe, relax, enjoy and visit at least one Temple. The blessing I had from one of the Monks I am sure, took me to one of the very best dreams I ever had! But this site isnt for analysing my dreams...so do go and have one of your own!!
