I booked a Grand Deluxe Hotel room for four nights as part of my third trip to Phuket. The room I found to be a little claustrophobic. It did have modern furnishings though, as the hotel as the hotel has evidently not been around for very long. I didn't like the view from my room either as it looked onto the back of a dirty building facing into the soi. I thought paying a little extra for a room would ensure a better view but obviously not. On an optimistic note, I noticed the glimmer of ocean between the buildings in the morning if I stood in the corner of my room, so I guess the mention of ocean views and so on may be justified.
I found the lift wasn't working a few times during my stay and had to take the stairs. The corridors outside of the rooms look tasteless and tacky instead of artistic and progressive. The whole building seems like a cheap apartment building that has been converted into a hotel as an afterthought. It is tucked away behind several other buildings far back in the Soi.
The customer service was lacking as nothing about the facilities was explained and there was absolutely no interest paid to me at all when I first walked into the lobby with my bag. Also on the last day, the housekeeping lady kept trying to come in my room when I was trying to have a shower because I was inconveniencing her by being in the room when she was ready to clean it. I saw a BBQ happening at night or something but when I approached to learn more I decided to keep walking because the menu (I think) was in Russian only and that was not part of my high school curriculum unfortunately. My solution was to spend as much time as possible away from the hotel with my friends who were up the road at the lovely yet pricey Movenpick.
As a place to crash for the night, it's ok but there are other choices around. Maybe I expected too much from this place given the glowing reviews but I normally get more when I stay elsewhere. I'm not much of a fan of this location compared to other locations in Phuket. I prefer to stay further south towards the hill near Kata. If a great holiday for you is sitting on the beach all day letting the sun speed up the aging process then perhaps you will be in your element. The beach is just a little stroll down the Soi.
I think better customer service would vastly improve this hotel. It was only staying here that made me realise how important this is.
