After reading mixed reviews, we weren't really sure what to expect, but decided we'd make the most of it no-matter what. We went all-inclusive with two kids (10 and 7).
First and foremost, it's the school holidays, this is a family hotel, so it's bound to be busy. To the credit of the hotel, despite what we'd read prior to arriving, the hotel staff were polite, helpful and for the most part pretty cheerful, despite being mostly rushed off of their feet.
The rooms got thoroughly cleaned 5 times a week, the communal areas inside and out were constantly being cleaned and tidied by cleaners, gardeners, waiting staff etc which meant the place was pretty much spotless 24/7.
Our room was one bedroomed and we were lucky enough to get an end one in Mallorca block which meant we had a large balcony and a fantastic sea view. Given that we didn't spend a lot of time in the room, the other minor disappointments were trivial, although I feel in the spirit of open-ness I should probably share them. Although we didn't use it, the kitchen looked ok, and the bathroom was fine. The downsides were that one of our kitchen cupboard doors was slightly broken and didn't shut properly, we had a small issue with some ants (which to their credit, the hotel resolved in an hour or so), and the sofa beds are slightly uncomfortable for an adult if your kids decide they want to get it with mum or dad! Word of warning too, if you get an end room, go careful hanging your stuff out on the balcony to dry, as one windy night, one of our "Go Britain Go" Union Jack towels blew away, never to be seen again!!
The food in the buffet restaurant was pretty good considering the amount of people's tastes they have to cater for. There were plenty of choices for each mealtime, and themed evenings. If you're after 5* cuisine, you'll probably be disappointed, but I think they did a pretty good job all things considered. The outside buffet restaurant was smaller, so had slighly less choice, but the sea-view made it worthwhile for a nice change. The BBQ and Pizzeria's that you can book a table at once a week each (on the all-inclusive package) were ok, the Pizzeria being better in my opinion.
The pools were excellent, with a splash pool and a tiny pool for the smaller kids, a normal 1.5m deep pool and the beach pool (with slide). I thought the removal of sunbed towels before 9am was effective and fair, and they stuck to it too, unlike some other places who pretend to and don't. We always managed to get beds for the family between 9 and 9.30am and never witnessed anyone unable to get a bed when they wanted one.
Our kids went to kids club a couple of times, but generally contented themselves in the pool. From what I saw, the kids club was very popular with those 8 and under, but other than that I can't really comment.
In my opinion, the TUI team generally kept the kids well entertained in the evenings too, with games and dancing, although I would say that the younger ones enjoyed it more. I have to say though, that (apart from having two nights of external acts - a hypnotist and then some Chinese acrobats) I did find myself getting a little bit bored of the TUI entertainment, especially when they did exactly the same each night during our second week. Don't get me wrong, they weren't too bad, I just felt like a 50/50 splits between them and external acts might have been better.
The hotel also has a games room, inside bar and TV area, launderette, outdoor table tennis tables, a small playground and bouncy castles (for one euro) for kids in the evenings.
All in all, we had a good time, so a big thanks to all of the staff for playing their part in that, especially those in the restaurants and bars, who were all brilliant. In all honesty I'm not sure if I'd go back or not, but that's nothing against the hotel.
p.s. If anyone finds a pair of Oakley sunglasses washed up on the beach - they're mine! They fell off of my head when I fell off of the inflatable banana into the sea. Despite the loss, that was a great laugh too - you should try it!
p.p.s. If anyone finds a portrait of a little girl dated 12/08/2012 sketched by the portrait artist, please can you let me know! We lost it somewhere either in the hotel, on the coach.
Ask for a beach view room - you might get lucky!
