The 3 of us (Me, He and our small pooch) decided on the dog friendly Masons Arms after reading the positive reviews on here and, having just returned from a widweek break, I'm very pleased to say we weren't disappointed.
We did have a slightly wobbly start as upon arrival we had to park in the Village Car Park down the road and we were concerned that we would be unable to park nearer than that for the duration of our stay but when we checked in we were told we could park on their drive beside The Green which couldn't have been more convenient.
The landlord, Mark, came through to welcome us personally and then he and his staff went on to deliver great service again and again.
Our room was comfy and clean with characterful beams and a crooked, creaky floor as befits a building of this age and we had a nice, albeit slightly small, en suite. The shower was an electric one that looked quite aged but again its performance was faultless and we were supplied with ample, warm and fluffy towels.
The breakfast's (as has been mentioned several times before) are epic! Despite ordering a slightly scaled down version on the first morning, it still had me beaten, easy peasy!
I opted for cereal and toast on a couple of mornings too and there was a plentiful choice for any who don't fancy the mother of all fry ups, with about 5 or 6 different cereals, yogurts, fruit juices, toast and a good selection of preserves. We also ate dinner here twice, sat at a cosy table near the open fire, and both times it was delicious.
On our last night I fancied a steak and had a hugely generous plateful of Rump with chips and trimmings and my other half's dinner of Scampi and chips was equally well proportioned.
The only negatives that I can think of are that the doors in the hotel accomodation were rather squeaky so there was no easing outside with the dog for her 7am tinkle without potentially disturbing other residents along the way.
Also, the ladies loos down in the pub were spotlessly clean but need a few minutes attention from a handyman as I couldn't close the door to one cubicle and in the the other side the loo seat lid wouldn't stay up. That being said these really are minor quibbles and I feel quite churlish mentioning them but I am trying to offer a fair, objective review.
All in all, we felt that we made a very good choice with The Masons Arms, as they offered a good value, good quality, comfortable base for our stay and we would happily stay there again.
