Stayed here for a couple of night last week, and am pleased to report that there was no sign of the alarming spiders referred to by another reviewer.

I stayed in a very pleasant, modern room - with a comfortable bed - overlooking the lake. The staff on the front desk were a credit to the place, helpful and friendly.

The hotel was slightly let down by the quality of its catering, nothing disastrous but a bit odd. For example my gravadlax starter came with just one (tiny) piece of bread, my salad Niçoise had no lettuce (though the helpful waiter brought me some when I asked if it was possible). As a business traveller my biggest gripe is that it's hard to eat healthily when I'm away and - in spite of the spa and the gym - the restaurant wasn't really doing its bit.

That said I'd definitely stay again when in the area - though I might be tempted to smuggle in a bag of lettuce!

  • Liked — the room and the delightful staff on the front desk
  • Disliked — the restaurant - OK, but needs some attention

Great position, attractive and clean...average staff apart from Nigel in Concierge who was marvelous.
We had booked Bed & Breakfast for 2 nights but after Breakfast on day 1 we did not return to the restaurant, staff slow and disorganised, no one in charge and food dreadful, greasy and not well cooked, because of this we decided not to try dinner there, but on one night went to the 'Boathouse' nice decor, charming waitresses but food very average, my partner had Fish & Chips and it was inedible coated in grease...this is such a shame as if they sort out the food at this hotel it would be great and the service in the lounge at night was hit/miss...so basically they lost out on us spending money at the hotel as we went out for food and drinks!

Myself and my partner have just returned from a 1 night stay at this hotel. On the way we stopped off in Bourton-on-the-water for a little look around - What a pretty place!

We arrived at the hotel and our room was ready - Great, also told we had a lake veiw room - Great. We get to our room and it is overlooking the side of what I can only describe as muddy marsh.

We went to expore the area around as we did choose this hotel hoping for a nice walk. This wasn't the case, the area had a walk but it involved dodging branches, mud etc. No nice views.

We decided to try the Spa, water was freezing and dirty.

In the room I can't complain other then the lack of windows. It wasn't a particually warm day but as there were only 2 small windows that hardly opened it got very hot.

We went to ther Old Boathouse for the evening as there was no where else other then the lake restaurant which I had read in previous reviews was pretty poor. We were seated and promptly told that because it was bank holidays and they had been busy half of the food on the menue was sold out. We had the overpriced mezze to start with which was basically a salad garnish with some pitta break and homous. Very poor. The second course was even worse, tasteless pasta and a side order of 'chunky chips' which were cold and were about 5 chips in the dish. It was very poor and very overpriced.

We then went back to the hotel 'lounge' to have a coffee. It was almost £5 for a liqeure coffee and it was cold.

We had a good laugh about it when we got back to the room, it was almost a joke.

In the morning we went down for breakfast hoping it would be a better experience. We were bought over toast which was basically warm bread, there was nothing toasted about it.. I mean come on....is it that hard to toast abit of bread?! The buffet was cold and the hash browns looked as if they had been fried about 6 times.

Like previous reviewers stated, there are alot of bug, it is in the middle of marsh land after all but during breakfast we were enindated with wasps as well. Very pleasent first thing in the morning!

We just wanted to get out of the place so we left.

In summary if you want a hotel in the middle of the 'Cotswolds' that is pretty much an Ibis hotel trying to be a travel inn but not quite succeeding, this is the place for you. If you want little choice in food, overpriced drinks, no walks and abit of an eye sore this is the place for you.

I just wish I had booked a night in Bourton-on- the-water and experienced the real 'Cotswolds'.

Really nice modern hotel, peaceful and modern, myself and my husband stayed here for the weekend, no kids!! Our rooms was really nice, we had a massive balcony overlooking the lake, really comfy bed, nice flat screen tv. The food was delicious, the drinks are very expensive so beware and the spa on a saturday - the pool is overcrowded and dirty, not really a spa in my opinion, if i had gone to the spa for treatments and relaxation i would have been very unhappy. Also a little out the way to walk any where - ie villages etc but overall a lovely hotel.

we stayed 2 nights to attend a wedding nearby, and found this hotel perfectly lovely for that purpose.

everything is still very new and well-kept apart from the windows and ceilings in the stairwells, communal areas and restaurant... i have never seen quite so many spiders! not that we spent that much time in the stairwells, but it is no exaggeration to say there were at least 6 to 10 in every window we saw. also, a little off-putting when they hurtle down from the ceiling into one's breakfast...

it is surprising for such a new hotel that the bedrooms don't have aircon, but our room (3rd floor, overlooking the water) had a balcony so we kept the door open through the night. better for the environment, i suppose.

breakfast was inconsistent - the hotel info recommends arriving early at the weekend as it gets busy from 0915; we duly arrived around 0815 on a saturday, and everything on the buffet was lukewarm or cold and the plates were cold. the following day, we arrived later - around 0930 - everything was piping hot and vastly improved.

the old boathouse 'gastropub' next door to the hotel is excellent, if a little pricey. but the food was good quality and the service prompt and welcoming.

i'm not sure if i would stay here for a holiday, but it seems popular as a base for walkers/watersports-enthusiasts as it is right next door to the water park.

  • Liked — lovely setting overlooking the water
  • Disliked — i dont mind a bit of nature, but this place was a bit of a popular getaway for spiders too!
