I booked this hotel for a birthday treat for my wife. A chance to get away for a night. We stayed in a ground floor room fairly close to the reception lobby. The hotel was very bright and clean and was situated in a very picturesque area within the Cotswold Water Parks. We liked its location as it is close to Cirencester. Also the spa is very well equipped. The main restaurant was fully booked so we had to book the attached Old Boat House restaurant. This was not dissappointing, we both enjoyed our meal and the service was very prompt but unrushed.
The only negative was the noise and this was probably attributed to the fact that we were close to the reception. I think there had been a wedding on during the day and we heard raised voices till gone 2.30 in the morning. My only suggestion would be to ask for a room towards the back of the hotel (you'd also benefit from lake views)

  • Liked — It's location and immediate grounds
  • Disliked — We experienced noise till early in the morning

We Have just had a terrific weekend at Cotswold Four Pillars Hotel. The Hotel is magnificent and we have never experienced such an incredibly friendly service before, add to this the beautiful setting of this very comfortable and tranquil Hotel and you have the perfect family break. The pool was a unique experience with its hydro jets and the adjoining sauna and steam rooms. We also took advantage of the spa therapies (in particular the Aromatherapy massage) and of course the state of the art gym. The variety of foods available at breakfast made sure that we ended up eating lunch much later then we normally would.
Overall I would say this is probably the best short break we have had as a family so far and we would definitely go back to the Four Pillars again.

Having read previous reviews I'd not looked forward to a business seminar and overnight stay. Being relatively new the room was in very good condition and well cleaned. For a standard room it was much more spacious than a standard holiday inn double, the trade off being a compact bathroom. The room was a little cold on arrival as the radiator thermostat was set to off. Overall the hotel and grounds very clean and tidy. For seminars the breakout areas lack sufficient seating for even relatively small groups

Food was not as bad as other reviews, my stay included an evening buffet as part of the seminar .The biggest problem was the lack of seating with many people having to crowd around a standup bar room table. The staff were a little slow in restocking the dessert. Breakfast was fairly standard, no shortages as in previous reviews and lunch was the same.

The reception staff was very efficient, restaurant a little less welcoming. The overall experience was ok but I wouldn't rush back for personal stay, it just lacked that something!.

  • Liked — Cleanliness
  • Disliked — lack of seating for seminar breakout areas

Stayed here for a couple of night last week, and am pleased to report that there was no sign of the alarming spiders referred to by another reviewer.

I stayed in a very pleasant, modern room - with a comfortable bed - overlooking the lake. The staff on the front desk were a credit to the place, helpful and friendly.

The hotel was slightly let down by the quality of its catering, nothing disastrous but a bit odd. For example my gravadlax starter came with just one (tiny) piece of bread, my salad Niçoise had no lettuce (though the helpful waiter brought me some when I asked if it was possible). As a business traveller my biggest gripe is that it's hard to eat healthily when I'm away and - in spite of the spa and the gym - the restaurant wasn't really doing its bit.

That said I'd definitely stay again when in the area - though I might be tempted to smuggle in a bag of lettuce!

  • Liked — the room and the delightful staff on the front desk
  • Disliked — the restaurant - OK, but needs some attention

Great position, attractive and clean...average staff apart from Nigel in Concierge who was marvelous.
We had booked Bed & Breakfast for 2 nights but after Breakfast on day 1 we did not return to the restaurant, staff slow and disorganised, no one in charge and food dreadful, greasy and not well cooked, because of this we decided not to try dinner there, but on one night went to the 'Boathouse' nice decor, charming waitresses but food very average, my partner had Fish & Chips and it was inedible coated in grease...this is such a shame as if they sort out the food at this hotel it would be great and the service in the lounge at night was hit/miss...so basically they lost out on us spending money at the hotel as we went out for food and drinks!
