My husband and I traveled to Petit St. Vincent for our honeymoon in May of 2009. It is really difficult to capture in words just how amazing our experience was, but I will try. From our very first interaction with Julie in the Florida office, the service they provided was top notch, better than anything we have experienced to date. We heard about PSV in a travel magazine, and followed up by visiting their website. It was then that we knew there was no other place we wanted to go to for our honeymoon. We didn’t make it there until two years later, but it was well worth the wait. We had very high expectations, and what we experienced was above and beyond those expectations. They leave no stone unturned to make sure you have the best possible experience on the island. They really think of everything. We often wanted to pinch ourselves to make sure we weren’t dreaming. It’s hard to believe that a place like this exists. It's a relaxing, remote, exquisite paradise.
The cottages are stunning, comfortable and luxurious, and each on their own stretch of private beach or own part of a cliff. There is so much vegetation around them that you can spend the entire time with the doors wide open, feeling the breeze from the ocean and hearing the ocean waves and all of the other sounds that come from paradise. You really don’t have to see another guest while you are there, unless you chose to do so. There is no air conditioning, but it’s absolutely not necessary with the consistent winds. There are no phones, tvs, or internet in the rooms. In our opinion it is such a luxury to be away from these things that consume people’s day to day lives when they are not on vacation. You raise one flag if you need anything and another if you want privacy. The system somehow works flawlessly. Anytime we needed anything, we got it.
We are both vegetarians, and were a little hesitant about what type of food we might get when they told us they always prepared a vegetarian option for each meal. Typically when we travel we get the usual pasta and vegetables, which definitely gets old. The food there was out of this world, Chef Trevor outdid himself every time. It was some of the most delicious food we have ever eaten. We stuffed ourselves silly at every meal because it was just too delicious to do anything but that.
We asked what time it was a couple of times and people just looked at us a little strangely and said, “well I guess it’s about – o’clock”. It is such a different kind of lifestyle down there. You get up with the sun and the birds, you eat when you are hungry, and you go to bed with the moon. It was so relaxing, peaceful and private.
Everyone that works there is friendly, attentive and helpful, but mind their own business when you do not need anything. My husband realized he forgot his prescription soon after we arrived, and the office staff worked hard to find a pharmacy that could fill the script on one of the nearby islands and had it couriered over by boat and delivered to our room. I have never been to a hotel that would take the time to offer this kind of service.
If you do want some adventure, there is some of the best snorkeling we have seen right off the beach at PSV. They have people who will teach you to sail their hobie cats, which is a ton of fun. Or you can book scuba diving or sailing tours and a myriad of other things at the front office.
They even went above and beyond during check out and provided us with the Barbados dollars we would need to get through the airport, knowing we probably would not have it on us. The attention to detail was amazing, and it really allowed for a carefree vacation. They sent us off with a packed lunch and waters on a boat, and my husband and I were very sad to leave. We spent some time in Barbados on the way back, which was quite disappointing in comparison, and realized that nothing could compare to PSV.
We highly recommend this place for people looking for a remote, private, romantic experience in paradise who are not afraid to go without some of the things they rely on in their day to day lives. And also people who consider being bored a luxury, because in the craziness of today’s world it truly is. Petit St. Vincent is amazing, and we will be back one of these days. A piece of heaven here on earth!
