We drove up from our home in Anchorage and after reading some other reviews we were wary of this place initially, but it turned out just fine. It's definenently a hub for some of the tour/cruise groups. The price is higher then average but typical for places that only have a summer season.
The room was limited in that it didn't have a refrigerator or microwave- but the perponderance of food in the area made that not such a big deal. We traveled with a 10 month old baby and found plenty of places that catered to her.
The hotel restaurant was a little pricey, but their breakfast buffet was excellent. We hit up every restaurant in town while there and recommend you try some of the more "exotic" fare, as my wife called it (i.e. buffalo/reindeer). You can see everything you want in 2 nights here, hope you have a good trip!
