I love this place!!! So tranquil! Grew up in Everglades so this is like my home away from home.
Went here on field trips as a child and visited a lot as a teen and young adult. Brought my son and husband here, they absolutely loved it. We counted 73 aligators. It was hot and sunny, but always such a nice breeze thru the saw grass! We live in Kentucky but this is home to me! All I was missing is my airboat and full track! Motel was abandon in Flamingo, I suppose from a hurricane. If you camp on sand in Flamingo, you will get sand fleas so either sleep off ground or in a camper. Bring your food in, raccoons help themselves. Only $10.00 car load all weekend! So cool to go to waters edge where east and west coast align and salt and fresh water come together to make brackish water. When you are here, you will feel like you are living in the past. So simple, so free!
