I found Chalet Spycat through the chaletsdirect website after posting a query for a catered chalet in a snowsure resort that would be a little bit of luxury. Lots of vendors posted a reply but there was something about Spycat that really caught my attention; I liked the website and the cosy pictures of the massive log fire and comfy rooms. When I saw the other 5 star reviews on here I was sold. We organised flights separately through Easyjet (apart from some GIANT queues in Geneva on the way home it was actually a relatively painless experience) but otherwise we took Spycat’s recommendations and were very pleased with the results. Spycat told us about Allmountain Rental who were FABULOUS – they came to the chalet on the afternoon we arrived and fitted our skis and boots so we could be in resort by 12.30 as Teresa gave us a lift into Morzine so we could get straight out onto the slopes. They also picked us up and took us to the airport, Paul’s excellent logistics meant that we were all picked up and dropped off in plenty of time for our flights and it was personal touches like this that really made the holiday.
Spycat itself is an absolute joy. We wanted something a little bit special and they did not disappoint, after years of slumming it in tiny box rooms and miniscule apartments this was an utter relief. Every night there was free flowing wine and delicious 3-course meals – nothing too heavy or stodgy and nothing too fancy that you might think fussy eaters would turn their noses up at. All just lovely freshly prepared stuff. The rooms are great – plenty of room for storing skiing stuff and super comfy beds. We had a view of the mountain from our bed which was stunning. The bathrooms were spotlessly clean and came with handy Molton Brown goodies which were alvoely touch. Plenty of hot water too, although it was a rarity to need a bath with the EXCELLENT hot tub outside that looked over the beautiful mountains. Sitting in there with a cold beer from the well-stocked fridge after a hard days skiing was truly wonderful.
The very best thing about the holiday has to be Paul and Teresa, as hosts they were fantastic. Attentive and kind, skilled chefs and brilliant at running the chalet as somewhere welcoming and restful. They were always up for a laugh, happy to join in and chat at dinner and come out fro drinks with us on the final night. Their stories were hilarious and their brilliantly huge, lovable dog Bear who laughs along to You’ve Been Framed would convince anyone that dogs are the perfect accompaniment to a skiing holiday!
If you’re deliberating over whether to go here or save a few pounds and go somewhere a bit cheaper I would strongly convince you to take the chance and book Spycat. You will have the most relaxed, friendly, funny and beautiful skiing holiday you could imagine.
