Jumby Bay, A Rosewood Resort

Jumby Bay was all and more I expected it to be. We stayed in room #23, a courtyard suite, it was perfect. The bed was so so so comfortable, lady primrose products smelt wonderful, the view from our porch great. We are big food and wine people, the food was outstanding, the wines by the glass were nice in addition to the wine list offered. One night they had a prix fix menu with wine pairings ~ it was delicious. Each day we spent on the beach, reading, relaxing and looking at the breathtaking blue ocean! You really feel like you are secluded on a private island. And the homes on the island are super awesome.

We met a few other guests who we ended up having dinner with our last night there ~ everyone at this resort is in vacation mode and very friendly! Most people there are on their honeymoon and two weddings took place while we were there. We even had tea with a couple we met from England. The whole experience was wonderful.

Will definately be going back after the rennovations are complete.

We just came back from Jumby Bay and it was a truly unique experience for us. My husband and I went with our 8 year old son and stayed in room 31 a ocean view bedroom suite. The room itself was great and the bathroom was the best part. We hardly used the AC, the cross breezes were fantastic.

We had to get used to the laid back atmosphere, no TV, no in-room wireless, no locks on the doors, golf cars/bikes for transportation etc This is not a complaint, simply stating the facts. We were OK with it, but certainly different than what we are used to at other resorts.

The two major drawbacks were the lack of a spa and the lap pool. Although they are planning on closing this summer and undertaking a major renovation which will add a spa and infinity pools. One other issue for us were the mosquitos. We did not have the netting set up in advance and my son looked like he had chicken pox the next day. The good thing was that these bites don't itch. I HIGHLY recommend the netting.

The beach was wonderful. Starfish everywhere. A great sandbar to walk out on and great cabanas to relax at all day. Make sure you get up to reserve one with books and personal items. Also make sure to use the FREE water toys. The catamans are a lot of fun for an 8 year old.

The food was good and plenty to choose from. We like the Estate House the best and the wine selection was good, although the prices, like the resort, were high.

The island itself was great and to name drop, Paul McCartney and Mariah Carey were staying there at the same time we were.... The private villas looked great to stay in if you can afford them.

Would recommend if you are fine with the price and looking for a relaxing, laid back place to stay.

My husband and I stayed at Jumby Bay in mid-July and had a lovely time. We were upgraded to one of the Rondavale rooms with a plunge pool with a great view of the ocean. The staff was always friends, most knew our names. We spent most of our time lounging on the beach or wandering the property on our bikes (at least 2 bikes at every room for guest use). The food was okay, the rotate the menue at the Estate House 2 times a week, though we did wish there was a little more variety. Overall I would definitely recommend Jumby Bay to anyone looking for a tropical place to go on their honeymoon that is off the beaten path.

“Very Relaxing, Highly Impressed”

Jumby Bay, A Rosewood Resort

We stumbled across Jumbay Bay on the internet and booked out trip 3-4 months in advance and I can honestly say we did question if what we saw was really what we were going to get...Jumby Bay highly exceded out expectations numerous times. The staff was very personable and helpful, the food was fantastic. We did have a problem w/ our A/C one night but we called the Front Desk and within minutes the maintenance staff was there and fixed the problem. The main beach absolutely beautiful, Pasture Beach very secluded. We would highly recommend the private dinner on the beach. Your own Chef and wait staff, candles, flowers, moonlight, all right on the beach. Well worth it. The food at both the Estate House and the Veranda were excellent from the service to the atmosphere. Our room was just perfect. Snorkling on at Bird Island was another nice day. Lots to see. Sunset tour of the island was also perfect.
Our trip lasted 6 nights but when we return we will definately stay much longer. The time of the year was good as long as you like the heat. No jellyfish and lots of starfish. This is definately a place for an adult getaway. We would recommend this trip to anyone....and have. We haven't stopped talking to our friends and family about since we returned home.

“Best Friends in Paradise”

Jumby Bay, A Rosewood Resort

Arriving to a destination by boat, always makes the experience more exciting. Such is the case with Jumby Bay. Upon arrival at Antigua's airport, you are met outside customs by the welcoming staff, that escort you to a car for the brief 5 minute ride to the pier. A swift 10 minute boat ride later, you arrive into the brillant blue waters of Jumby Bay. Waiting on the pier are a host of staff, who graciously offer a cold towel and an even colder drink.

We are 4 best friends from college, who have traveled together for many years. Once a year, we leave husbands, children and family behind, for a brief return to younger days. This was possibly our best vacation to date. Our room was a 2-bedroom suite in a rondavel. The rooms are wonderful - large comfortable beds with luxurious linens and fluffy duvets. Lots of closet space, robes, slippers, great A/C and quite simply - the best hotel bathrooms ever. There are 2 separate sinks with lots of counter space, an indoor shower with water pressure to knock you over and the best feature - the outdoor shower! A palm tree grows in the midst of the area with wood planking covering cool river rocks and stones. The Rainshower and the Lady Primrose amenities delight the senses.

Days were spent with bikes rides, water skiing, snorkeling, dipping in the pool, walking past the well-equipped fitness center, shopping in the little boutique, but mostly...doing absolutely nothing but lolling on the perfect beach. The sand is the softest white, the water the clearest blue...we could hardly tear ourselves away.

Breakfasts were wonderfully served by a staff that we cannot praise enough. Guided by Adelza, Letitizia and Agnola and a host of others, offered smiling, friendly service. All the girls made a point of calling us by name and remembering our favorite things. A buffet of cold items includes the freshest of fruits, sinful pastries, yogurt homemade on Antigua and cereals. Daily, a different tropical juice is offered, as well as a menu of Eggs Benedict, smoked salmon with all the trimmings and banana pancakes.

Lunches were a great buffet of a chilled soup, always a fish, steamed vegetables, crisp salads and the best Ceasar salad, tossed to order with fried onions and crispy oven croutons. You can also order from the menu, with a myriad of choices...burgers, sandwiches and entrees using local ingredients. Chilled Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc always make lunch a more enjoyable repast!

There's a beach bar, situated in the middle of the beach and James and Shelley will prepare a frozen concoction of your preference. The staff will pass by your lounge chair with chilled bottles of water, frozen fruit and ice cream in the afternoon. You can take the hotel's water taxi to Antigua and enjoy the island and other activities, but we opted to remain at the resort, swimming in the crystal Caribbean and leaving the beach only when the sun had set over the hills of Antigua in the distance.

Evenings were spent with dinner at the Estate House. In season, the Verandah is also open for dinner, but during our stay, we dined each evening, except for Sunday, at the Estate House. Wednesday was the General Manager's cocktail reception, followed by a six course tasting menu, served with wines to complement each course. The General Manager, Carlos, greets everyone and you are made to feel like a guest in his home by his genuinely warm and welcoming demeanor.

Cocktails were served each evening in the bar of the Estate House, a restored plantation with beautiful palm tree murals adorning the walls. The dinner menu offered soups, salads with interesting ingredients as local pumpkin, entrees such as Chateaubriand for 2, lamb wrapped in bacon, fresh fish, all exquisitely prepared by the Executive Chef, Eric. The Director of Food and Beverage, Jacco, was a wealth of information about the offerings of the menu and all his resort has to offer. Homemade desserts, ice creams and mini cakes and sweets finished our meals. The food is truly exquisite!

The perfect end to our stay was on a Sunday night, which happened to be my 49th birthday. The resort hosts a magical night on the beach, complete with tiki torches and candles along the water and a tantalizing buffet of grilled lobster tails, shrimp, chicken, wonderful salads and a grilled Bananas Foster for dessert.

Although the majority of guests were couples celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary, we found it to be the perfect place for 4 friends. We met a group of sisters from Britain and a few families and realized the resort is really ideal for anyone wanting to get away from the stresses of daily life. Would we return - in a heartbeat!
