My fiancé and I stayed at Jumby Bay for 3 nights in Aug this year. Being an all inclusive hotel, we were not sure how good the hotel would be, but were very pleasantly surprised.

We arrived at the Jetty and were whisked away on a boat to the small island where Jumby is the only hotel on the island. From the moment we arrived, we had the most wonderful time. The beach is beautiful and spacious, there are hundreds of star fish in the water, something very unusual. The service on the beach very good, we always had water on hand, and the cocktails were wonderful. We were very pleasantly surprised to see that although this hotel is 'all inclusive'' they do not cut any corners. The food is plentiful and fantastic. The range of drinks is exceptional. The staff were very friendly, especially the bar people. It was my partner's birthday and on request they arranged for a lovely bottle of champagne and chocolates to be brought to the room (and there was no charge on the bill when we left). If you are worried that you will be too far from everything on Antigua, don't be, as the ferry (5 min ride) leaves every hour).

Negatives: The room is a bit outdated for this type of accommodation now days, but in general it was very good. Also the limousine drive from the airport to the hotel is far too expensive, $25 per person, for a 5 min trip, so take a taxi from the airport if you can. These were the only negatives however, I highly recommend it!

  • Liked — The quality of 'all inclusive'
  • Disliked — The charge for taxi ride from airport

Having read the reviews on trip advisor before we departed, we were quite concerned about where we were going. Having now been, I can see that certain areas need improvement but overall the holiday more than met my expectations.

Our room was fabulous, an upgrade to the one we actually paid for, with fully working air conditioning. It was room 3 which was in a perfect location and had everything we desired. A TV would have been good to watch the news about Hurricane Dean but overall you don't need one.

The hotel staff we excellent, especially Darren and Jenny from the bar - excellent company if you fancy a laugh and a few stories about Caribbean life!

Jumby bay is a beach holiday, and could do with a little more entertainment in the evenings, but overall it was paradise.

The one aspect that does need improvement is the food! Breakfast and lunch are nice, but lack change on the menu. The evening meals lack change on the menu, and is far to rich for the weather and for those who do not like complex meals. If the food had been different we would have given the hotel an excellent in terms of ratings.

Overall its wonderfully peaceful, beautiful beaches and you may bump into one of two movie celebraties as we did!

Second visits to a place you loved can be a disaster....not so Jumby Bay! The second time was just as brilliant...perhaps more so because it lived up to our every expectation. Yes the air conditioning isn't brilliant....but I wouldn't swap it because you'd lose the shutters and perhaps the desire to open all the doors - then you'd miss the birds and the sounds of the sea. The food might not be michelin starred but the staff more than make up for it...Stafford, Jenny, Maureen, the sommelier ( sorry name eludes me) Darren and the other staff are just brilliant. Hopefully the new management team, who are really trying hard will keep them. New improvements promised ....but please don't lose the sense of peace and the somewhat quirky boutique side which hopefully will keep the people who can't manage without TV, chain hotel sameness, keys or AC away. For the beach alone we'd return and wave at the poor souls leaving from the airport....rock on JB!

I am an avid traveler and have stayed at many places, both good and bad. With high or low expectations, we have always known what we were getting into by staying at any of the hotels/resorts that we have been to. We have recently returned from our honeymoon at Jumby Bay Resort. I must say, the sunsets are spectacular. Most of the hotel staff is just as friendly and eager to try to be helpful. However, as a bride on my first-class honeymoon, I have never experienced any stay as atrocious as this place was. The all-inclusive price that we paid for this time was a waste of our hard-earned money and feel that I have been taken for a sucker. For a Rosewood Resort, this is by far unimaginable, but true. (I can say this because I have stayed at several of their other properties and this one is the WORST). This particular resort definitely misleads the public. Our A/C quit working on the first night after arrival and the "help desk" did not seem eager or concerned that we have no A/C. They did not try to relocate us into a room with working A/C. The food, for a 4 or 5 (and I say that with a very loose tongue), was not edible. The fish the kitchen cooked should have been perfect (being surrounded by water and being a natural food source), I could not even swallow the fish without the use of a glass of water. The staff and management were at odds with each other and this was a reflection in which the guests were able to see first hand. The “spa”, again a term used oh so lightly, was not a spa per se. I wanted a pedicure and was willing to pay the high price because I was after all, on my honeymoon at a world-class resort. There is no place to give a manicure or pedicure except in your room. This would not work because we had no A/C. They gave us the option to use the small 6'x3' massage room (little lighting in here). The “spa” pedicurist came in, and gave me the worst pedicure I have ever seen. (I even ended up with an infection because of the non sterilization of the tools, which I was unaware of at the time). Not only did she NOT give me a "spa pedicure", but the company sent over a new mother who was lactating the whole time. I was overcharged and the hostess desk stated that was my fault when I went to inquire about the charges. This resort gives a free snorkeling trip 2-3 times a week, which is nice. However, at this particular time of our stay, when they took us to a specific site, it was jellyfish migration season. The driver of our boat said, "Watch out for the jellyfish". Now, why would a 4-5 star resort take their guests to a site that is known during this specific season, that it is jellyfish season? All the guest that were aboard the boat that day went into the water and less than 15 minutes later, we were all on shore wanting to go back to the resort. The driver of the boat would not oblige right away. The only true service that was impeccable was the bar staff. I only hope to inform people. Don’t even bother with this resort. I had never been so elated to leave a vacation spot as I was on my honeymoon. Needless to say, if you do read this, I implore you to look elsewhere; perhaps Little Dix Bay in Virgin Gorda. (Yes, it is a Rosewood Resort, but you will be highly impressed and will continue to go back for years to come).

We could go anywhere in the world for our honeymoon and after staying at another Rosewood resort, Lil Dix Bay ( it was a great experience) we choose to try Jumby Bay. Unfortunately, we didn't know that the management was changing the week we arrived, that the executive chef resigned and that our A/C was pretty much not working 90+ F weather.

We politely complained about the A/C and we were just ignored, by the staff, by the front desk and even by the new GM who arrived that week. As for honeymooners, the rooms are situatated like old hotels, thin walls NO TUB, no A/C , very hard pillows and no privacy. We had to shower at night just to cool down enough to get to be able to sleep. Now all we had to contend with was the loud fans just to keep the air flow going.

As for the food, well it was not first rate, not even third rate. I travel all over the world and have stayed in great places as well as budget places and this was more on the budget side. When you are forking out $1,000 a day you should expect great things. Breakfast was a buffett with the birds, same under cooked eggs, greasy bacon and pastries not worth trying. For seven days we got the same choices, I had better in a military mess hall or a college dorm. For lunch, it was a limited menu, no fresh island food at all (surprisingly not much local food served at all) with salad or sandwiches, again not even worth it. At dinner, they split where you eat for the night, at the Veranda it a buffet that disappoints, at the Estate House (Fine Dining, yeah right) it was a set menu with some daily specials that focused more on beef/chicken rather than seafood, go figure? It you were lucky enough to get there early while they still had the specials you might get a fair meal, again not world class. Wine selection was good, deserts were good and if you asked they would give you cookies to go so you could eat the next day.

We decided to get a couple pedicure but had to get it arranged in the massage room because our room was too hot, management still didn't get the hint. We waited while someone was ferried over from Antigua. She was pleasant but didn't even plug in her machine to warm the water for you feet to soak in, had my wife do her own buffing and while she did mine I looked down and was lactating (she had just given birth a month ago) and it was dripping out her shirt. All this for a price of $180. We complained and all they would deduct is $10, we checked out the next day and went to Hawaii for two weeks.

What a waste of time, much better places to go. Try Little dix Bay instead, it is worth the money and it is private. The beach and bar was the only thing this place had and you can go many places either cheaper or better than this rip off.
