Stayed here for two weeks recently, on a package with First Choice Ltd.
This is a small, friendly hotel, in a very good location, right on the beach (although a small strip of beach, sea could be a little rough at times).
We upgraded our room to a superior ocean view at the time of booking and were pleased that we had. We were in the "new block", a large room with balcony overlooking the sea. The room had a small, but very adequate kitchen, with 4 ring hob and full-size fridge, also plenty of crockery/cutlery etc. A large k/s bed, lot's of hanging and drawer space and a nice dining table and chairs.
Our room and all the common areas were spotlessly clean, our bedding was changed every 3 days and towels and tea-towels changed daily.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, but never over-bearing. they were happy to chat and pass the time of day, or leave you alone as you wished.
The pool/jacuzzi's and sunbathing decks were very tidy, there seemd to be plenty of sunbeds to go around. Would have been good to have a few umbrellas as well.
We didn't eat in the hotel, but believe from others that it was very good. The bar was fine, with a good selection of beers and cocktails. The T.V. wasn't annoying! The Karaoke night (Thursday) was tedious, but over by 10.30pm at the latest. Please note that there is a small dwelling-house located right next door to the hotel which has a note stating it is available for rental. During our stay it was used once on a Saturday night for a private party (for local people). It consisted of a large BBQ, bar area and very loud disco (complete with DJ). this was the only annoying night of the whole 2 weeks, as it went on until 3.30am.
There is a small supermarket over the road from the hotel which sells essential, but much better to go to the supermarket in Oistins for value and choice.
The road outside of the hotel is quite busy and I can imagine it could be noisy depending on the location of your room. though this is a plus if you want to catch a bus as the stops are right outside.
The Reggae busses are the local mini-buses and are fantastic!! They stop anywhere for you, are incredibly cheap and cheerful $1.50 Barbados for any journey. They are used by locals and tourists aike and are a "must". the Government buses (same price) are bigger and go a lot further distance, like to Bridgetown, speightstown, Holetown etc. They are fantastic for getting around. We also hired a car for a couple of days, which is great for the freedom it allows.
Food is marvellous in Barbados, we ate out all of the time and were spoiled for choice! We can recommend: Bellinis, Pisces, Sol, Luigis and the Chinese over the road from the hotel... and many more. Please give McBrides a miss for food, it was awful! Friday night at Oistins is a must!
We would definitely return to Barbados and the Butterfly Beach. If anyone would like any further information on our time in Barbados, or a few pointers/specifics, please don't hesitate to contact !
