Stayed here for two weeks recently, on a package with First Choice Ltd.

This is a small, friendly hotel, in a very good location, right on the beach (although a small strip of beach, sea could be a little rough at times).

We upgraded our room to a superior ocean view at the time of booking and were pleased that we had. We were in the "new block", a large room with balcony overlooking the sea. The room had a small, but very adequate kitchen, with 4 ring hob and full-size fridge, also plenty of crockery/cutlery etc. A large k/s bed, lot's of hanging and drawer space and a nice dining table and chairs.

Our room and all the common areas were spotlessly clean, our bedding was changed every 3 days and towels and tea-towels changed daily.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, but never over-bearing. they were happy to chat and pass the time of day, or leave you alone as you wished.

The pool/jacuzzi's and sunbathing decks were very tidy, there seemd to be plenty of sunbeds to go around. Would have been good to have a few umbrellas as well.

We didn't eat in the hotel, but believe from others that it was very good. The bar was fine, with a good selection of beers and cocktails. The T.V. wasn't annoying! The Karaoke night (Thursday) was tedious, but over by 10.30pm at the latest. Please note that there is a small dwelling-house located right next door to the hotel which has a note stating it is available for rental. During our stay it was used once on a Saturday night for a private party (for local people). It consisted of a large BBQ, bar area and very loud disco (complete with DJ). this was the only annoying night of the whole 2 weeks, as it went on until 3.30am.

There is a small supermarket over the road from the hotel which sells essential, but much better to go to the supermarket in Oistins for value and choice.

The road outside of the hotel is quite busy and I can imagine it could be noisy depending on the location of your room. though this is a plus if you want to catch a bus as the stops are right outside.

The Reggae busses are the local mini-buses and are fantastic!! They stop anywhere for you, are incredibly cheap and cheerful $1.50 Barbados for any journey. They are used by locals and tourists aike and are a "must". the Government buses (same price) are bigger and go a lot further distance, like to Bridgetown, speightstown, Holetown etc. They are fantastic for getting around. We also hired a car for a couple of days, which is great for the freedom it allows.

Food is marvellous in Barbados, we ate out all of the time and were spoiled for choice! We can recommend: Bellinis, Pisces, Sol, Luigis and the Chinese over the road from the hotel... and many more. Please give McBrides a miss for food, it was awful! Friday night at Oistins is a must!

We would definitely return to Barbados and the Butterfly Beach. If anyone would like any further information on our time in Barbados, or a few pointers/specifics, please don't hesitate to contact !

We just returned from a short visit to Barbados. We stayed at Butterfly Beach hotel which is a casual airy hotel, sandwiched between the south coast main road and the beach. In truth, there is not much of a beach directly in front of the hotel, but to the side of the hotel, passing through a quaint little gate, you access the beach -waters too rough for swimming, but nice enough for sunseekers and picnickers. The problem with being this close to the main southcoast road, however is the noise level of the passing trucks, buses and other motorvehicles, which we had to endure throughout our stay, particularly since we were located on the side closest to the roadway. Sleeping in the late afternoons/early evening or mornings became impossible. Having said that, the service was wonderful. Candace, the receptionist who seemed to be almost always there -late evenings, early mornings, was particularly pleasant. The restaurant staff was also wonderful. Even the giftshop manager was hilarious and very helpful, as was the security officer. The hotel is relatively small, but that adds to its charm. Our room was clean and maintained, with kitchenette, plates and cutlery. Cable tv was not much to speak of - very few channels. Oistens fishfry is a short walk away, and enjoyable on a weekend. All in all, a warm inviting hotel.

The hotel is fairly small which we prefer as it makes it more personable. The facilities are fine, food fine and the staff are all very genuinely nice. Schofield one of the supervisors in the bar is a real charecter and ask him to sing. A few loud Brits working for Sky sports cricket coverage loved to hear themselves scream at the weekly karaoke, and were always very ignorant but we didnt let them spoil the superb holiday. We were married at a hotel a short walk down the beach which made things even more special. A great island, great people and hotel we will return.

I cant understand some of the bad reviews given about the butterfly, as we found it a perfect hotel. Over the years we have stayed all around the Carribean, but even Sandals came nowhere near the butterfly. The location was ideal, right on a perfect beach and just miutes away from the nightlife of the Gap. All the staff were helpful, one of the maintainence staff even came to our rescue when a case burst open 1hr before we were due to leave by stitching it back together even though we only asked for parcel tape. The food & drink at the hotel was good and well priced compared to the Gap, especially during the two daily happy hours. The room like the rest of the hotel was spotless, and we got a sea view at no extra cost. Outside the hotel are a few bars and a small store for essentials. Julie and Allen run this store and are very helpful in telling you where to visit or eat. I called in most days for a couple of air conditioned beers and a chat with Allen or the locals who used it frequently. As is normal in this part of the world these chats could be quite animated, especially when the subject turned to cricket. Afew metres up the road brings you to Charlies bar and grill which provides entertainment when you need a change. We didn't use this bar much as across the road was Pablo Donte's bar. Pablo (paul) and his mother Maureen only opened a few months ago but the place is hugely popular with locals and visitors alike. As soon as you walk in you are greeted like old friends, all the staff are great and are happy to talk or not depending on what you want. The food in Pablo's was excellent, freshly cooked and half the price you'd pay in the Gap, don't miss for a great night out as the hotel bar closes at 11pm.

We stayed at the Butterfly Beach Hotel in Dec for 2 weeks with our 12 year old daughter. Was a bit worried at first that she would be bored dued to the seclusion of the hotel but needn't have worried. She never came out of the pool for 2 weeks. She made friends the whole holiday. Our room was an island view room. Tried to upgrade to sea view room but there were non available. The nosie from the road didn't bother us. We found the room comfortable and it was cleaned everyday. My husand had bit of an accident and smashed a beer bottle on the stairs and cut his hand on our 2nd day, the maid saw it and cleaned it straight away and the duty manager came with a first aid box to attend to the wound. It didn't need stitches but she rang our room the next day to see how he was and also rang later on in the week. She could not have been more helpful.

We hired a car, yes the ones without doors. it did the job . We drove all round the island going to Bridgetown, St Lucy, Bathsheba and the sea caves. Got lost a few times, but that was part of the enjoyment.

Went into St Lawrence Gap for something to eat most nights. Loved Bellinis, Cafe Sol and Harlequins bar. We also found a small italian pizza place called Mamma Mias.

We had a great holiday only wish we could have stayed for Christmas! We are going back to BB this October for three weeks.
