RENT A TRUCK!!! preferably a 4x4.
ok, to be fair, we were there over Thanksgiving, and it was rainy season, so half the park was closed.
That having been said, the roads are not roads. they are dirt paths with LOTS of VERY LARGE rocks and puddles (rainy season) and what we in chicago would call potholes, only bigger. You have to have a truck. I dont think you will be allowed INTO the park if you dont have a truck, even if it werent rainy season. it costs $10 (US) a person to enter the park. It's beautiful in an extreme, rustic, desert way. They wont let you in after 2PM, and you have to be out by 5:30. It will take you two hours of driving if you drive carefully to get around the short loop. We entered about 2, and with a couple of stops, exited the park at about 5:15. I felt rushed by the time constraint. We started to see some parakeets and birds toward the end of our journey. The beach on the far side is beautiful, and it looks like there is a second visitor's center there, but it may have been closed for the season.
Overall, with enough time and the correct transportation, this park is beautiful in an almost completely untouched way. Bonaire is really out there, and this park is as out there as Bonaire gets. Good luck, and drive carefully!
