This was our first trip to Cuba (April 12-22), and overall, had a very good vacation with only a couple concerns. We arrived at the resort at 11pm and even though we had been booked since last August, our booked accomodation was not available (Suite). Reception staff had no problem assigning us a room for the first night but had to wait until almost noon the next day to confirm our suite would be available (finally received our suite at about 1:30 that afternoon). The only reason given for this mix up was they were at full capacity/overbooked and we would have to take it up with our carrier (Sunwing) upon our return home. Presently waiting for a response from them.
Found the layout of the resort to be excellent. Everything was within easy walking distance. Facilities were well kept and clean. A problem that we were aware of before arriving concerning a shortage of pool and room towels was still evident when we arrived. After a few days they received a new order of pool towels but the problem with room towels persisted the entire trip. Some days they would hang back up the wet towels we wanted replaced.
We knew from reading other reviews that the food would not be as good as other areas in the Carribean and we found this to be the case as well. However, there was always something satisfying to eat and did not go hungry. The pizza station was good, they would make you a pizza to order if you wished. The omlet station in the morning was also very good.
We found the entertainment at this resort to be excellent, and we enjoyed many of the shows in the theatre, finding the performers to be professional and talented. As well there was a very enjoyable water ballet show on two afternoons in the main pool.
The Laguna Azul animation staff were outstanding, going out of their way to ensure guests had every opportunity to have fun and stay active during their holiday. We particularly enjoyed the archery and air gun competitions that were held daily. A special thanks to Jenny and Betsy of the animation team, they were wonderful and treated us like family. Many thanks!
Overall, we had a good first visit to Cuba and will return at some point in the future.
