“Challenging!”

Jungle Bay Resort & Spa

9 Mar 2008
1/3 found this review helpful

Make no mistake - getting around ths resort is physically challenging, and you should be in reasonably good shape if you don't want to be miserable. In addition to the large number of steps to get to most of the cabins (mine was 104), for many you also had to climb a steep hill before you even got to the steps. The excursions required a certain amount of fearlessness, as they involved cliffs with narrow ledges and lots of slippery rocks. That said, the setting is beautiful and so peaceful! Lots of birds and lizards (even in the cabins), the sight and sound of the surf, the lushness of the largely untouched jungle surrounding - it's close to paradise. Excellent, healthy food, friendly and helpful staff. Long drives to go just about anywhere, on curvy, narrow, sometimes rough roads conducive to carsickness, but the views are breathtaking. Very little of the usual Caribbean crass tourism in evidence, and Jungle Bay is doing its part ot preserve what is wonderful about Dominica.

“An Amazing Vacation”

Jungle Bay Resort & Spa

5 of 5 stars
New York, NY

Jungle Bay offers the perfect combination of activity and relaxation in a beautiful setting and an unbelievably friendly staff. The cottages are nestled amongst the trees so you benefit from the sounds, smells and breeze of the outdoors while having the comforts of a spacious bed, clean bathroom and covered outdoor shower. There are plenty of activities to choose from and at the end of a hard day's hike, the on-site spa offers great massages with breathtaking views and the restaurant serves all-around good and healthy food. The owners have set out to demonstrate a sustainable ecotourism model for the area and show a true commitment to its neighbors. Lastly, the guides are very friendly and even when sent out with a group of guests on a very rainy and long hike, kept us smiling and laughing. We consider our week at Jungle Bay to be one of our best vacations and look forward to returning.

“the best!”

Jungle Bay Resort & Spa

1 Mar 2008

We had a great 5 days at Jungle Bay - the Jungle Spa Package is a great deal - includes room, all food, 30min spa treatments every day and all activities. (alcohol not included but thats all!)
The hike to boiling lake was fantastic - we were sore for days afterwards. All the spa treatments are great, especially the massage with bay oil! The food is fantastic. It was hard to leave! If you go - do not rent a car/truck. It's not worth it and the driving is treacherous anyway. JB drives you to all the activites, etc. What a great vacation - one of our best!

“5 star Jungle Bay & Dominica”

Jungle Bay Resort & Spa

14 Feb 2008
4/4 found this review helpful

We just returned from a fantastic stay at Jungle Bay resort on the beautiful island of Dominica. We spent 5 days at Jungle Bay with our 6 yr old son. The cottages, food, spa, and jungle and ocean excursions were absolutely wonderful. The island is truely the most beautiful island in the Caribbean. But what made this trip so special was the way we were treated by the owners, Sam and Glenda, and there wonderful staff. There was a very genuine friendliness that we have not experienced in any of our travels. If your considering Dominica, DON'T HESITATE, go,go,go! You will be thrilled with the island and Jungle Bay.

“Summer Camp for Eco Friendly Adults”

Jungle Bay Resort & Spa

11 Feb 2008

If you want to relive your summer camp experience as an adult and live off the grid so to speak this is your place. It is a welcome change to the standard Caribbean vacation, sun, sand, drinks and cookie cutter hotels. If that is what you are looking for, it is best to go to another island. Dominica is very rustic and perfect for people who want to unplug and get back to nature. They have a high regard for organic produce, recycling, conserving energy and pride themselves on their eco friendly lodging model. Your cabins are nestled in the trees and during your stay you become very familiar with the natural habitat - an adjustment if you are coming from any city life. It is a long trip from the states but well worth it. It took us 12-14 hours to arrive door to door but the relaxation from having little or no contact with the outside world is priceless.

Jungle Bay has some excellent excursions which are quite challenging although they rank them as moderate. If you are not into hiking, not to worry, you will get enough of a workout by walking to your cabin each day, some cabins are 155 steps up! There is a stone pool that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean – the Caribbean is on the other side so the hotel is not beach front. They have a lovely staff that knows your name after the first introduction. They will prepare special foods for you as well as making sure you are taking advantage of what Dominica has to offer. All the guests are really friendly and since this is a small hotel, you get to know everyone during your stay.

All in all I give it an A+!
