We had an outstanding active, adventurous vacation at this beautiful eco-resort responsibly tucked into its natural surroundings, and staffed by friendly, competent local people. The Spa/Adventure package is the way to go - every day a choice of unique hikes or trips, massages and treatments, yoga, and tasty, well-prepared meals. Just the right amount of comforts - great bed, showers, in-room fridge, private balcony, views to die for, and the sounds of surf, tree frogs and birds to lull you to sleep after a full day of activity. May not appeal to the bar hoppers or pool loungers - though the nightly special cocktail can be rocket fuel for your dancing feet and the volcanic rock pool is totally relaxing. A beautifully situated, creatively designed resort with everything we wanted for an active vacation.

A phenomenal resort on one of the most beautiful islands we have visited in the Caribbean and Pacific!

The treehouse exceeded our expectations! Luxuriously furnished for the island. Sparkling clean rooms, comfortable beds, thick towels. Peek-a-boo views of the crashing Atlantic ocean that lulled us to sleep each night. Showering outdoors was refreshing and calming with views of the surrounding forest and the Atlantic through its quaint bamboo window! We asked for a secluded and quiet treehouse and loved the 125 steps up to our nest in the trees.

Massage rooms offered tranqulity with an open wall facing the crashing ocean. Therapists listened to our requests and transformed our sore muscles into jelly.

Meals offered many choices. Very good food but a tad bland for our spicy taste buds. We just added Dominican hot sauce.

The staff was incredibly accomodating! They fetched ripe, luscious magoes for us when we were hungry in the afternoon; arranged to pick-up us and our luggage from our previous hotel so we could join the Boiling Lake hike (Do this hike!) on our arrival day; prepared lunch at an earlier time before we left for the airport; and packed us a bag of root vegetable chips to go. Brother filled our hikes with talk of Dominican culture, plants, herbal remedies, and an intense love of his country. And he always generously brought the sweetest, melt-in-your-mouth pineapple for us on every hike. Sam and Glenda, the owners, were actively involved and their personal interest in their guests' happiness, their staff and their resort was palpable!

As an aside, before we came to Jungle Bay for 3 nights, we stayed in Castle Comfort at the Evergreen Hotel's Honeymoon Hut for a few nights. We rented a car, explored Calibishie, ate dinners in Roseau, took a whale watching tour (sperm whales!), and spent a day scuba diving and kayaking with Nature Island Dive. We loved having the opportunity to explore the island on our own but were so pleased to turn in the rental car and retreat to Jungle Bay. Jungle Bay had numerous activities planned daily but most required 45 min. to 90 min. drive time. However, Dominica is such a large island with so many treasures to explore that you will have driving time no matter where you stay.

February was an incredible time of year to go. No bugs, low humidity, warm and sunny days.

Make no mistake - getting around ths resort is physically challenging, and you should be in reasonably good shape if you don't want to be miserable. In addition to the large number of steps to get to most of the cabins (mine was 104), for many you also had to climb a steep hill before you even got to the steps. The excursions required a certain amount of fearlessness, as they involved cliffs with narrow ledges and lots of slippery rocks. That said, the setting is beautiful and so peaceful! Lots of birds and lizards (even in the cabins), the sight and sound of the surf, the lushness of the largely untouched jungle surrounding - it's close to paradise. Excellent, healthy food, friendly and helpful staff. Long drives to go just about anywhere, on curvy, narrow, sometimes rough roads conducive to carsickness, but the views are breathtaking. Very little of the usual Caribbean crass tourism in evidence, and Jungle Bay is doing its part ot preserve what is wonderful about Dominica.

Jungle Bay offers the perfect combination of activity and relaxation in a beautiful setting and an unbelievably friendly staff. The cottages are nestled amongst the trees so you benefit from the sounds, smells and breeze of the outdoors while having the comforts of a spacious bed, clean bathroom and covered outdoor shower. There are plenty of activities to choose from and at the end of a hard day's hike, the on-site spa offers great massages with breathtaking views and the restaurant serves all-around good and healthy food. The owners have set out to demonstrate a sustainable ecotourism model for the area and show a true commitment to its neighbors. Lastly, the guides are very friendly and even when sent out with a group of guests on a very rainy and long hike, kept us smiling and laughing. We consider our week at Jungle Bay to be one of our best vacations and look forward to returning.
