We just returned from our honeymoon at Jungle Bay and can't say enough wonderful things about our experience. Dominica itself is an oasis of unspoiled nature. We absolutely loved its lush, thick foliage with rivers, waterfalls, rocks, and on and on. I'll be honest, it's rustic, and I don't think it's for everyone here, but if you're looking for a place to relax and reconnect with nature, with yourself, or with your spouse.. this is it.

Jungle Bay itself is beautiful. The cabins are spacious and clean with excellent views, comfy chairs/beds, and a roomy bathroom. There are in most cases over 100 steps to get to your cabin, so be prepared. (Think of what great leg muscles you could have!) However when it rains, and it can be often, be prepared for mud. The crashing waves from the Atlantic below will lull you to sleep and relax you immediately.

We LOVED the food.... I've not been able to eat store bought since. Dominica's abundunce of fresh fruits yield amazing juices (Gotta try the grapefruit and passionfruit!) and the best fresh fruit you'll ever have. Daily. I can't say enough about the meals... just realize you won't be disappointed.

If you plan to be even remotely active, which we recommend to get out and about and see the island, get their "Adventure Spa" package which includes all meals, daily excursions (Snorkel, hike, kayak, educational courses, etc) AND a daily 30 minute spa treatment for each of you. Did I mention daily? Did I mention 100 stairs? GET THIS PACKAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And finally -- the staff at this resort, including Sam and Glenda, the owners, make you feel like you're just one of the family, visiting for a few days. They'll know you all by name. One of our tour guides even had his wife cook us up a treat. We couldn't have been more impressed with these wonderful folks... and we can't wait to go back.

When I decided to take a solo birthday vacation I was looking for some very specific things. I wanted an adventure filled with hiking, yoga, amazing food, massage and a simple yet elegant location.....not to mention amazing service. This was a really tall order and Jungle Bay delivered on all accounts.

The location is beautiful. The activies you can take part in are fun, fullfilling and challenging enough to be interesting. The spa is top of the line with great views and an amazing ambiance. The food was excellent.

What most impressed me was the people that make up Jungle Bay. From the owner to the guides to the staff that puts it all together they radiate friendliness and joy. It was great to share time with all these amazing people.

I would highly recommend Jungle Bay to anyone interested in checking out the Caribbean.

Outstanding location, food and staff! We have travelled a lot all over the world but this resort was a new and amazing experience for us. The combination of a luxury holiday with adventureous guided tours was perfect to get an insight to one of the Carribean's most authentic islands. We highly recommend this to people who like to have both - a relaxed and active vacation in the middle of the jungle. Go and hear Sam's story on the resort, don't miss the tough but wonderful hike to the boiling lake and all the other activities. We enjoyed everything including the dance and cooking lesson. We will definitely return!!!

Glorious spot - absolutely beautiful surroundings. Perfect pool overlooking the Atlantic and a beautiful rocky beach. Swimming in the Atlantic near the resort NOT recommended - dangerous surf, but you can walk down the beach and dunk in a river that meets the ocean. Kind, friendly and generous staff. Accommodations simple and very comfortable, including a hammock on every cottage deck. Lots of lizards and iguanas, which probably explains why there are no bugs anywhere - fine by me. Many excursions available from Jungle Bay, led by friendly and capable guides. Trips to waterfalls, snorkeling in Champagne Bay, the market at Roseau, great hikes, and much more. Don't rent your own car! Roads are narrow, windy and treacherous. Let Jungle Bay pick you up at the airport and escort you on excursions. Lots of places to hike independently as well. Such fun!

“Beautiful Rugged Natural Resort but physically challenged prepare”

Jungle Bay Resort & Spa

12 Apr 2008

Junge Bay is challenging to drive to. The roads are narrow, bumpy, and people prone to motion sickness and back problems should prepare for the 1 hour and 40 minute ride or narrow, up and down side to side bumpy ride. the landscape is beautiful but opt for a SUV instead of van for back problems and take time to get there, also take antimotion sickness medication before and drink or eat ginger to ease motion sickness. Once you arrive at Jungle Bay the Resort is a beautiful place filled with wonderful accomodating people. The owners put their heart and soul into building this resort and is actively involved and all the staff are warm, pleasant, and accomodating. I injured my back and although had wished I had known about road conditions at the time of arranging the resort with staff member. I was not told prior to arrival to prepare but once I made suggestions, complaints staff was understanding and accomodated me for the rest of the trip and gave me ginger, antinausea medications, delivered meals to my room when I was sore to move out of the home, gave me SUV to go home with and drove extra slow on way to airport back. My back injury was aggravated by the long bumpy ride to point was sore for two days. It is definetely a place where you need to be physically healthy and prepared to not only deal with the road conditions and the excursions that you have to travel to, plus climbing up stone, rock/dirt pathways. Need to be especially careful at night, very easy to slip with rocks under the leaves and twist the ankle even if walk slow since very dark and if at any moment walk to fast can happen easily. If one physically healthy then will love this action, adventure, natural environment. Plus if in a couple where one wants to be active and the other relax can still relax and enjoy just being in the resort. The resort offers spa services daily, can lounge by the pool, walk to rocky beach or mineral river easily. I choose relaxation, and the beautiful homes, spa services, the people once I arrived made my trip pleasant to recover. The Resort itself, beautiful tree top homes overlooking the rainforest, can hear the crashing waves and see all birds and lizards at all times. The food is very healthy and taste so good. The food, the people, the natural rustic environment alone was worth the trip. if physically healthy many excursions you do not want to miss and will enjoy natural preserved environment.
